This hitch is ready to take on serious towing jobs. With a gross towing weight of 30,000 lbs and a vertical load limit of 7,500 lbs, it can handle heavy gooseneck trailers for livestock, equipment, or big RVs without strain. The double-lock system uses two pins instead of one, giving you extra security and peace of mind when you’re hauling your heaviest loads.
When the trailer’s parked and you want your bed space back, flip the 2-5/16" chrome-plated ball upside down and drop it back into the hitch. The underbed design keeps everything below the bed surface so you can load gear or materials without a bulky hitch in the way. A rubber cover fits over the ball hole to keep out grime, leaving a clean, flat surface.
The comfort-grip handle sits inside the wheel well for easy access. Just pull it out to unlock the hitch, drop in the ball, and rotate it until both locking pins snap into place. When you’re done towing, flip the ball for storage and twist the handle again to lock it down. The spring-loaded loop and dual-pin design make connecting or stowing quick and straightforward.
The Curt Double Lock hitch mounts under the bed using a custom installation kit with Grade 8 hardware—no welding required. A 4" hole in the bed is all that’s needed for the ball opening. The black powder coated steel resists corrosion, and zinc plating protects the locking mechanism for long-term reliability on every haul.

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Curt Double Lock, Flip and Store Underbed Gooseneck Hitch with the installation kit for the Dodge Ram 1500 trucks, and this has a 30,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now, this is a custom fit part, it is designed to fit the 2002 to 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 trucks, and on a custom fit part like this, I do like to recommend for you to go to our website, use the fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and it'll show you if this'll work for your application. Now, this is a nice heavy-duty underbed hitch that'll let you tow your gooseneck trailer with your vehicle, and this one uses the double lock system on the hitch, provides nice added security, because at the end of this handle, they use two pins that'll hold the ball in place instead of just one. Just wanna pop up an insert to show them we we're talking about, you can see the cutaway there. It shows it unlocked, when it's double locked, and when it's stored, and it shows you the two pins on the end of the handle that go in there.
Now, the handle right here, this is a nice comfort grip handle, this'll a lock and unlock the dual pins, and this can be positioned on either side of your truck bed, so we have it over here on the driver's side, you can switch it over on the passenger's side if you like. They do use a chrome plated hitch ball, which is easily removed when you're not towing for complete access to your truck bed. Right now, it's locked in place, so it's ready for towing. If you wanna remove it, all you have to do is take your handle, pull your handle all the way out, and then just twist it, and it'll hold it in the open position, and that'll release the dual pins, allows you to pull your gooseneck ball out just like that. You can see the dual holes right there.
Let me go ahead and zoom in. There's the dual holes that the pins go through, and if you noticed on the bottom, you have a little handle, so if you're not gonna be towing, just flip it over. Now, there is a little knob in there that you just wanna line up with the cutout here. So you just drop it in on that side, and then drop it in place and it holds it, release your handle, and those dual pins will lock it in place. Now, the chrome ring, if you noticed right here, has a nice chrome ring, which will surround the hitch ball, provides a nice tight low-profile look, and they do include this rubber cover, so when it's being used in the stored position, just take your rubber cover, then tap it right into the opening and that'll prevent any dirt or grime from getting in there, and it'll give you full use of your truck bed.
They do also offer the safety-chain hookups right here, we installed them, you can see they are spring loaded. This is where you'll take your safety-chains, put the hook through there and it'll hold it in place, same on this side. Now, the finish on this is a nice black powder coat steel, it's very durable and corrosion resistant, and they do use zinc plating on the locking mechanism, provides superior corrosion resistance. Zoom back out. Now, that we have installed this to the mounting kit, you can see on the ends here, it does include the custom installation kit.
Comes with the Grade 8 hardware to install everything, even comes with an exhaust hanger right here, and it comes with a nice set of detailed instructions that'll describe how this all goes together and how it operates. Now, the installation requires no welding or truck bed removal. Now, there might be modifications needed to make to your vehicle. Installation tips, it will require a four inch diameter hole in the truck bed for access to the ball, and then four 5/8 inch diameter holes for your safety chain U-bolts. Few specs on this again, the ball size, let's just pop it back up. So what we're gonna do is unlock it, twist it, it's in the open position, reach in and grab the little handle, pull it up, again, the slot on this side, you just keep lined up on that side, drop it into place, release the dual pins, and now you're locked, ready to tow. Ball size is a standard 2 5/16 diameter, gross towing weight capacity is 30,000 pounds, vertical load limit 7,500 pounds, but a note I do wanna mention is the capacity will always be determined by that of your vehicle, so you do wanna make sure not to exceed the recommended vehicle towing weight. Installed on a 1995 powerstroke, slight modification required to make my air bags sit correct, but only to the air bag brackets not the hitch. I pull a 32’ stock trailer and exceeded the hitch manufactures weight rating on a weekly basis. Self installed and It has been on for about a year with no trouble. This seems to be just as strong as the B&W on my other pickup that I’ve had for more than 10 years.
Great product but the instructions are a little muddied. I replaced a welded in under bed gooseneck hitch with this unit. I chose this unit over a single pin gooseneck flip ball for the added mental security as well as potential for less rattle
I think this gooseneck hitch is the best for newer Sierra/Silverado HD trucks. I installed it a week ago with the help of my father-in-law and his car lift. Took about 4 hours moving slowly and taking our time. Everything fit well and bolted right up. I also reinstalled the foil heat shield after removing one mounting ear. I did not drop the exhaust or the plastic heat shield and still got everything in.
I chose this specific kit because it did not require notching the bed seam when installing the rails. It also has a higher tongue load rating than the others and was cheaper.
The only major criticism I have is the pull wire and carriage bolts. My chassis has weld nuts and I would have preferred to use those over carriage bolts pulled into the chassis. I am thankful there were access holes almost inline with the mounting holes. That made it easy to put pressure on the bolt heads so they didn’t fall back. I also think the gasket around the big hole should be one piece to make it look cleaner. I used black silicone rtv to smooth the transition and adhere the gasket in place.
Overall I am completely satisfied with the kit and the help of Shawn B who got my order in, had it shipped that same day and followed up with me after delivery. Thanks etrailer and Shawn B.
Thank you for reaching out. Definitely love the reliability and durability of this hitch, also the added clearance. I have it mounted on my 40 foot enclosed race car trailer. We towed using it 35 to 40 times to and from race tracks in 2019. Hooking it up and disconnecting it every weekend. Never gave us a single issue.
Installed easily on 2015 GMC 2500 HD double cab short bed. Plenty of clearance under the bed when ball is flipped. This system makes for a clean useable bed. When I was purchasing this I was concerned about clearance of a gooseneck hitch and my transfer tank. I have a 40 gal tank that sits back from the cab a bit over 20 inches, there’s plenty of clearance for a gooseneck with a fuel tank on this short bed. The hitch has held up perfectly over the last year. I haul around 12k on steep, washboard, gravel roads.
This was so much harder to install than I was led to believe! Because I have air bags on my truck which your install info didn’t even address!
this installed correctly on my 2005 dodge ram 2500 diesel per instructions for installation with air bags. I have hauled a 42 foot 3 axle car trailer for over 6,000 miles with no issues. This was a great purchase. Thank you

Got this for our new camper last year. Did the installation myself with a few buddies very straight forward directions. We use a Reese goose box with the curt 4” off set ball on our 08 short bed truck! Would definitely recommend

Wow, what can I say, this is an extremely solid, well built unit.
I knew it was about 90 pound, but when you take it out of the boxes the quality really hits you. Everything fits just as it is supposed to. The bolts are all Grade 8, and when you get everything torqued you know this unit is truly part of the truck frame.
Maybe a little over kill for our 5500# Escape 5.0 TA, but I wanted that confidence while connected, and I got it.
Coupled this with the Anderson Ultimate Hitch in Black Out and couldn't be happier.
The supplied mounting brackets didn't line up with anything on the frame. I had to modify the entire kit. I fo however like the locking mechanism.
Great product and perfect fit for my 2005 GMC Sierra duramax. I just purchased a Montana fifth wheel and wanted to still be able to use the bed of the truck without taking a heavy hitch in and out and breaking my back. The hitch arrived really fast and the boxes were in pretty good shape and I was only missing one washer from a torn parts bag. I was able to install the hitch that weekend with help of the directions and how to YouTube video. The only issue I had was that the video stated the crossbar with the notch went to the rear while the directions showed it going to the front. It definitely goes to the front and was pretty obvious when installing it. I didn’t have any real issues with the install and it looks great and hides away nicely leaving a clean flat bed. I look forward to hauling my fifth wheel real soon.
A well-designed, high-quality gooseneck hitch kit, that I probably could have installed myself if I would have had a hydraulic lift available. The installation video was very well done.
After reading through the installation manual, thank you so much for the video. I used that as a reference while reading. Not sure I would have understood everything if that hadn’t been available.

The reason for 3 stars on this Curt gooseneck is not for the quality of the item itself. It's great quality but the instructions and compatibility are the issue. If you have a truck that this kit fits and you have overload springs, YOU WILL HAVE TO CUT 10" OFF THE BACK END AND DRILL INTO THE FRAME TO MAKE THIS FIT. (Supposed to be a drill free kit) I feel like that should be duly noted because not everyone has the means or capability to cut 1/4" steel plate at home. Like I said, great quality hitch, poor communication of fitment and modifications.

Kit installed easily and fit perfectly. Instructions could have been better or included more pictures, but watching a few videos of similar installs online helped. Lost one star because the kit was missing an exhaust hanger bracket and a couple other pieces that were considered optional and fortunately not needed during my install.
