Note: Always replace your struts in pairs, where applicable. Most lids, covers, or hatches have a strut on each side. Failure to replace both struts can result in a warped or damaged hinge.
Gas Strut with Exceptional Stability
Most gas struts consist of a tube filled with pressurized nitrogen gas, a piston, and rod. The Atlas Lift strut, however, has a dynamic damping groove inside the tube that regulates gas movement across the piston. This ensures your tool box lid, bed cover, or boat hatch stays open when you want it open and shuts slowly without bouncing or slamming. Lastly, in contrast to struts that only have gas in the chamber, a few drops of oil have been mixed in to help seal the piston and lubricate the rod. This allows your lid to move more smoothly as the rod travels in and out of the tube.
How to Find the Right Gas Strut for Your Application
Determining which gas strut is right for your application is easy. All you need to do is remove your worn-out strut and locate the force printed on the side of the tube:
Then, pull the rod out so it's fully extended and take the following measurements:

Hi everybody. My name is Andy with etrailer.com. And today, we're gonna be taking a look at this universal lift support. Now, this is going to replace one worn out or damaged ball and socket gas strut for your truck cover, or your boat hatch, or your toolbox, and more. Let's take a closer look at this together. Now, the dampening technology provides smooth operation that is going to eliminate bouncing and jumping.
And this is going to ensure frictionless movement in all weather conditions. This arm extends to hold your hatch open and then gently compresses while closing. And this nylon ball and socket connectors, these connectors here are going to install directly to your existing original equipment manufacturer fittings. And then the nitride coated, steel shaft is corrosion resistant for lasting performance. Now, you will get one lift support with this.
If you are replacing one of a pair, it is recommended that you replace both at the same time. So, you might wanna pick up an extra lift support. Now, the connection type is going to be 10 millimeter ball socket. And let me give you a measurement of the extended length here. I'm going to pull out my tape measure and I am going to measure from the center of the socket to the center of the socket.
And we are gonna be sitting right at, let me see if I can get this to hold still here. We're gonna be sitting right at 19 3/4 inches long, 19 3/4 inches long socket to socket. Now, the compressed length is going to be 11 7/16 inches long. And then the stroke is going to be 8 1/4 inches. Now, the compression in force pounds on this lift support is gonna be 125 pounds to 135 pounds.
And this does have a limited lifetime warranty. Well, that's gonna conclude our look today at this universal lift support. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me..

Quick, tool-free installation.I called etrailer and talked to Randall V trying to locate a special door shock for my RV. I needed a special length with added pressure rating. Randall spent the neeed time to find a shock to meet my needs. The shock shipped immediately and was received on time and in new condition. Installed and fits and works perfectly!

These worked fine during warm weather, however, when it got cold they quit working and would not hold nor lift the glass lid. These have been replaced with factory units.
Install was easy and just want I needed
just took longer then expected .
So far so good. We will see if they last another winter here in Colorado. The struts we have had in the past seem to fail in the winter time.
They worked perfect. Glad I made the purchase at etrailer
