Roadmaster Flat Tow Brake System - RM-751441

  • Stop Light Switch
  • Roadmaster

Avoid damage to your vehicle by ensuring that your supplemental braking system is properly positioned and working effectively. Kit activates your RV monitoring system to alert you when the brakes of your towed car are being applied.

Features:

  • Activates motorhome brake-monitoring system whenever brake pedal in towed car is applied
    • Ensures that the supplemental braking system is functioning properly
  • Works great for any application that does not have a tow position in the ignition
  • Wires directly into towed car's fuse box for constant current
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • 12 Volts
  • Application: custom fit for your vehicle

This kit allows your RV's monitoring system to alert you whenever the brake pedal of your towed car is being applied. Other systems operate according to whether the air cylinder is extended and provide no indication of what is happening with the pedal itself. If your supplemental braking system is improperly installed, it may be continuously pressing on the pedal, impeding it from fully retracting and possibly causing damage to your vehicle's tires and braking system. With Roadmaster's Stop Light Switch Kit, you will always know when the brake is being depressed, and you will avoid costly damage.

Just what I needed.

by:

Was required to make the MM brake monitor light work. Kit fit perfectly and is functioning as designed. Not an easy install in my SS and adjustment is very sensitive but works fine when tuned in.

Works great fairly easy install. It has been in use for the last 8 month's with no issues. Here may be some helpful hints that I found when installing. Use 10-12" long extension for 13mm nut (left side of opening panel that was removed). Install bracket. Adjust plunger & backing nut by feel. Remove bracket. Install switch with ring washer & nut. Crimp red & green wires on switch wires. Reinstall bracket under dash.

Installed on a 2023 Equinox LT (AWD). I believe there may have been a change to the Equinox brake pedal assembly from prior years. Because of this, I was not able to get the switch located properly with the bracket that is included in the kit. I fashioned my own mounting plate from a piece of diamondplate which I bolted to the brake lever bracketry. This works great and is rock solid.

There was a challenge presented when installing the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch (Kit #751452) on my 2015 Jeep Wrangler Sport Unlimited. The kit's Black C Bracket was not able to swing around fully to allow the kit's gray stop switch to be in line with the brake pedal. This was due to blockage caused by existing jeep's stop switch gray mounting bracket. As a result, I had to cut a notch using a Dremel and a grinding bit. The area where I had the interference from the jeep's bracket and the notch to allow proper installation is indicated in the attached photo.

It is imperative that the kit's stop light switch when mounted correctly is fully depressed. If not, 12 volts will be sent to the Evenbrake's transmitter which will result in an alarm and failure to use the Evenbrake system.

Also in reference to the Roadmaster installation instructions, there is no removable lower plastic cover. Installation requires twisting ones body under the dashboard with limited use of my left arm (I am right handed) to use tools.

I ordered the stop switch from etrailer.com. I am using a Roadmaster Evenbrake system. I do want to state a clarification concerning the battery based on what I read in etrailer's and other forums. You do not have to disconnect the jeep battery on the 2015 Wrangler Sport Unlimited Model. Jeep made a change in the second edition of the 2014 operators manual which is reflected in the 2015 manual. The earlier 2014 edition did state the disconnecting of the battery before towing. I had informed the Roadmaster tech department of this change.

The 2015 Jeep Wrangler Sport Unlimited steering column does not lock. You do not have to leave the key in ignition. You can remove it when ready to tow.

My 2015 jeep has the power convenience group. The vehicle has two 12 volt convenience outlets. One is only powered on when the ignition switch is on. The other outlet is connected directly to the battery via a fuse. It is on all the time. This is the outlet I use for the Evenbrake. Now, Jeep does state not to plug in devices that use more than 13 amps or 160 watts. Roadmaster as per their installation manual indicates that the maximum draw of the Evenbrake is 10.8 amps. I reviewed all the above to the Roadmaster tech department and they said I should not have a problem using the Jeep's always on 12 volt outlet. We recently went on a camping trip on Columbus Day weekend to a campground 120 miles from the house and no power problems were encountered with the Evenbrake system.

One other clarification is that the Jeep's brake lights are tied into the power convenience/electronics system. The brake lights will operate for a short period of time after the ignition is turned off and/or you open the jeep's door. Use of the brake lights will time out. This is the primary reason why I chose the stop light switch bracket kit.

The Roadmaster Evenbrake transmitter and the hot leg to the kit's stop light switch are fed from a dedicated 10 amp fuse protected line from the battery. This way, I avoided drilling a hole into the weather resistant under the hood fuse box plus negating the need to make rube goldberg connections to existing fuses.

As before, excellent product. Absolutely love eTrailer and all their knowledgeable staff. Can't recommend them enough!!!

by:

Easy to install. This product is a lifesaver! My JGC WK did not have the tow package installed, so it had no connection for an EBC. This product gave me the stoplight switch connection I needed! It took about 20 minutes to install and adjust. Thanks!

by:

Solved my problem for a brake switch signal on my Bronco while installing the Ready Brute Elite 2 flat tow system. I really needed the little LED indicator on the motorhome dash to let me know when the brakes were being applied. Gives me piece of mind! Also was an easy install. Thanks.

by:

It is my opinion that the universal brake light switch is the easy way to go. Hardest part doing the DIY way is the place you are working in. I.have a few sore spots trying to get underneath the steering wheel. The benefit is you have instant info that the switch works. A light comes on when you push the break pedal

by:

I purchased this as part of a package which included; Hitch and wiring for my 2022 Equinox, Base plate, Tow Bar, brake System and connecting air hose, break away cables, LED tow lights with wiring harness, and a trickle charger to keep the Equinox battery from going dead while I was towing it behind my class A RV.
I had etrailer do the install of all the components on my car and RV. All the workmanship was excellent and done in the amount of time they said it would take. Also because they did not have a video of this equipment being put on this year and model vehicle, I gave them permission to make a video(which added a extra day and a half to the install)and the installation was free. Everything has worked perfectly and I couldn't be happier. Etrailer is my go to for anything towing and also RV parts.

by:

Very easy install and works as stated with the wireless coach link
Delivery was painful coming from the US to Canada

by:

We couldn't be happier! This is our second vehicle equipped with this system. It's the second for a reason! Great job all the way around. Thank you eTrailer!

by:

works great, I put the light inside my RV to let me know when the brakes are applied.

by:

This product worked great for me. I didn't want the brake lights in my plug-in hybrid activating my trailer brakes when all I wanted was regenerative braking. Now I can get regen by taking my foot off the gas pedal and trailer braking by putting my foot on the brake pedal.

by:

etrailer’s installation video was very helpful. However, the mounting bracket holes on either end seem to be the same size (the video and instructions state that the switch fits into only one end but for me it fit into both). Consequently, it is not clear which side of the bracket to use for the switch vs the vehicle stud. One other installation hint, perhaps unique to the Wrangler Rubicon or Wranglers with upgraded audio/Uconnect, there is an electronic module (3”x4”), mounted to the dash framework behind the lower dash panel, that must be dismounted in order to allow access to the bracket mounting location (see photo).

by:

I installed it myself to tow my 2018 Jeep Wrangler as I had experience as an auto mechanic myself years ago. I would not reccomend self install for those without such eperience even though the online videos were helpful. The only issue I had with performance was sticking lock mechasims which was resolved by calling the manufacturer, who instructed cleaning the housings which got dirty.

by:

This was a little tricky to get adjusted properly, but you just have to be patient until it's in the proper place. Had to adjust the mounting bar angle slightly to get it in the right place.

by:

I love buying products by phone on eTrailer! Staff is so knowledgeable and helpful. Not to mention the quick and expeditious fulfillment of orders.

by:

Great product installed very easily. I also used this switch to install a Brake Controller. By using this I did not have to tap into the Wrangler electrical system for the Bake Controller.

by:

Install was tight in the Wrangler.

I
would recommend removing the driver seat, it at least removing the seat bolts and moving it rearward to have room to work.

by:

Great Product very adjustable for mounting on all types of vehicles!

by:

The installing bracket is difficult to install. If I would have seen the trailer switch and mounting hardware, I would have purchased it.

by:

Installed it on my 2020 Jeep Gladiator. I had bend the bracket slightly to ensure the button was pressed evenly. Otherwise, works as it should.

  • Can BrakeMaster Breakaway Kit be Easily Removed from One Vehicle to Another Vehicle
Whether you have the Roadmaster BrakeMaster Braking System for RVs with Hydraulic Brakes # RM-9060 or the Roadmaster BrakeMaster System for RVs w Air or Air Over Hydraulic Brakes # RM-9160 you need to keep your breakaway system install on the Jeep Wrangler if you plan on still flat towing that vehicle. I reached out to my contact at Roadmaster who said that the breakaway kit is pressurized and so it needs to stay in a secured location and shouldn't be mounted on the air cylinder. If you...

According to the online copy of the 2015 Cadillac SRX owner's manual I took a look at, "Front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive vehicles may be dinghy towed from the front. These vehicles can also be towed by placing them on a platform trailer with all four wheels off of the ground." GM states that your vehicle shouldn't be towed at speeds greater than 65mph, or damage could occur. AS far as procedure goes, you'll need to remove the shift lever boot, and use a small screwdriver to depress...

  • Locating Brake Stop Lamp Signal To Install Brake Controller on 2013 Cadillac SRX
I don't have any information about which wire color you're needing, but what you're looking for is the wire that only shows signal with the brake pedal pushed. In a situation where the brake stoplight switch isn't easily accessible, or can't be found I'd recommend installing an auxiliary switch like the part # RM-751441 offered by Roadmaster. These switches are typically used for flat towing a vehicle, but they'll also work perfectly for this purpose. The switch is simple to install and...
