Wiring a trailer can be a pain when you have to cut into factory wires, but this Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness takes that out of the equation. It connects directly to your vehicle’s existing plugs, giving you a clean setup with no splicing or wire tracing. Just plug it in and you’re ready to roll.
The built-in powered converter keeps your trailer lights working right by drawing power directly from the battery instead of overloading your vehicle’s circuits. That means steady, reliable lighting for running, brake, and turn signals every time you hook up.
This harness comes finished with a standard 4-flat connector. It gives your trailer the essential lighting functions—running, brake, and turn—so you can hook up and go without extra adapters or wiring work.
If your vehicle didn’t come with factory towing wiring, this harness is built for that situation. It uses existing connection points and routes neatly along factory paths for a tidy, weather-resistant install that looks like it came from the factory.

Speaker 1: Today we're taking a look at the Hopkins Plug In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness of the 4Pole Flat Trailer Connector. This product fits a 2008 to 2010 Dodge Avenger. To ensure or double check that it is a fit for your vehicle, you can use the vehicle fit guide located at etrailer.com. This unit provides a four way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer signal lights. It is compatible with five pull, six pull and seven pull adapters. Adapters are sold separately.
And it comes with a dusk cap for a four way flat connector. That way you can cover up the connection points whenever your plug's not being used. All the wiring runs to this black box. This is in the included powered taillight converter. This connects directly to your vehicle battery through the wiring to avoid overloading your vehicle's system. Now the unit features protective connection terminals to resist rust and corrosion.
It connects foot clean easily. All you need to do is locate the connection points behind your tail lights and plug in your connectors. The green wire connector runs to the passenger side. The yellow and white wired connector runs to the driver side. These are custom fit for your vehicle so these plugs match up perfectly with the ports on your vehicle and they snap them all together for a nice tight secure fit.Once you have those plugged in, you'll need to make a ground connection.
That's your white wire with the ring terminal attached to it. You want to get that grounded to a suitable grounding location and you can use the included self tapped in screw to make the ground connection if needed. Then you'll need to mount the convertor box to a safe out of the way location. You can do that using the included cable ties in the kit. Next you'll run the hot lead to the vehicle battery.
The hot lead is the short red wire coming out of the box. Already has a butt connector attached to it. That gets connected to one end of the bundle. The other end of the bundle runs to the vehicle battery, gets connected to one half of the fuse holder here at the butt connector. The other half of the fuse holder has a ring terminal on it. That gets connected to the positive posts of your vehicle battery. It comes with a 15 amp fuse, goes directly into fuse holder and it's got the cap that goes over to keep the safe and protected.Once you have that done you can secure the excess or slack in your wiring with the included cable ties and then once your install is complete the four way connector will be stowed beneath the vehicle near the trailer hitch. We do recommend using a mounting bracket to keep the connector secured and easily accessible. Mounting brackets are sold separately and available at etrailer.com. Also it's recommended that you use a small amount of the provided terminal grease in all of your electrical connections like the plugs on the vehicle and the four pull connector itself to help prevent corrosion. When it comes to the maximum amperage for the stop and turn lights, we're looking at 2.1 amps per circuit. And for the tail lights, we're looking at 4.2 amps per circuit. That's going to do it for today's look at the Hopkins Plug-in Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with the 4Pole Flat Trailer Connector.
