Specs:
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area on the driver's side and passenger's side. You will have to remove the rear threshold and some interior lining to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, run the red hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed in your rear cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Hopkins plug-in simple vehicle wiring harness with the four-pull flat trailer connector. This product fits certain years of the Ford Focus. You can use the vehicle fit guide located at etrailer.com to ensure that this is a fit for your vehicle. What this unit does is it provides a four-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. It is compatible with five-pull, six-pull and seven-pull adapters. Adapters are sold separately and it comes with a dust cap for the four-way flat connector. That way you can cover up the connection points when your plug is not being used.
The black box right here, this is the included taillight convertor. This is going to ensure that your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer's. The power module connects directly to the vehicle battery to avoid overloading the vehicle's electrical system, connects through the wiring. It is designed to connect quickly and easily. All you need to do is locate the connection points in the rear cargo area. The connectors with the yellow wire always favor the driver's side.
The ones with the green wires favors the passenger's side. It does come with detailed installation instructions to help walk you through that process step-by-step, but locate your connection points, plug in your connectors. These plugs are going to match up perfectly with the ports on the vehicle. It is a customer fit harness and they're going to snap-lock together for a nice, tight, secure fit. Once you have those connected you'll need to make a ground connection. Your ground wire is your white wire.
It has a ring terminal already attached to it. You want to get that grounded at a suitable grounding location with the included grounding screw. Then you'll need to mount the convertor box to an out of the way location. It's got a mount located on each side that we can get it mounted out of the way with the included cable ties. Then you'll need to run the hot lead to the vehicle battery. The hot lead is the red wire with the butt connector on it.
This gets attached to one end of the bundle of red wire. The other end of the bundle runs to the vehicle battery, gets connected to one half of the fuse holder here at the butt connector. The other half of the fuse holder has a ring terminal on there. That gets connected to the positive post of your vehicle battery. It does come with your 15 amp fuse, goes directly in the fuse holder. It's got the cap that goes over. It's going to keep that safe and protected. Once you have that done you can secure any excess or slack in the wiring that you may have with the remaining cable ties. Once the installation is complete the four-way connectors are going to be stowed in your rear cargo area. It is recommended that you use a small amount of terminal grease on all your electrical connections like the plugs on the vehicle and the four-pull connector itself. The grease is designed to help prevent corrosion to the terminals and the grease packet is included with the kit. When it comes to the maximum amperage for the stop and termites we're looking at three amps per circuit. For the taillights it's six amps per circuit. That's going to do it for today's look at the Hopkins plug-in simple vehicle wiring harness with the four-pull flat trailer connector.
