Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, run the red hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Speaker 1: Today we're taking a look at the Hopkins plug in simple vehicle wiring harness with a four pull flat trailer connector. This product fits a 2001 to 2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser. Now, to ensure or if you want to double check that this is a fit for your vehicle, you can use the vehicle fit guide at Etrailer.com.This unit, once installed, it's designed to provide a four way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle, which is going to power your trailer signal lights. This is compatible with five pull, six pull, and seven pull adapters. Adapters are sold separately. And it comes with a dust cap for the four way flat connector.

That way you can cover up the connection points whenever your plug's not being used. Now all the wires go into this black box right here. This is the included tail light converter. This ensures that your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer's. So this power module connects directly to your vehicle battery through the wiring to avoid overloading the vehicle's electrical system. The unit also features protective connection terminals that are designed to last a long time and resist rust and corrosion.

And this unit is designed to connect quickly and easily. It does come with detailed installation instructions. But basically what you'll need to do is locate the connection points behind the taillights and plug in all of your connectors. Now, these connectors, some favor the driver side. Then you have connectors that go to the passenger side.

They are custom fit for your vehicle, so they match up perfectly with the ports on the vehicle, and they snap and lock into position. It's a nice, durable design. Again, custom fit for your vehicle so you don't have to worry about them not working or not fitting. Once you have those plugged in, you'll need to make a ground connection. That's your white wire.

It has a ring terminal already attached to it.You want to get that grounded to suitable grounding location with the included grounding screw. And then you'll need to mount the converter to a safe, out of the way location. And you can do that with the included cable ties. Next, you'll need to run the hot lead to the vehicle battery. The hot lead is the short red wire coming out of the box. It already has a butt connector attached to it. This gets connected to one end of the bundle. The other end of the bundle runs to the vehicle battery and connects to one half of the fuse holder here with the butt connector. The other half of the fuse holder has a ring terminal attached to it. That gets connected to the positive post of the vehicle battery. It does come with a 15 amp fuse, goes directly in the fuse holder, and it's got the cap that goes over to keep it safe and protected. Once you have that done, you can secure any excess or slack in the wiring with the included cable ties. And once your install is complete, the four way connector will be stowed beneath the vehicle in your other trailer hitch. We do recommend using a mounting bracket to keep the connector secured and easily assessable. Mounting brackets are sold separately and available at Etrailer.com.It's also recommended that you use a small amount of the included grease on all the electrical connections like the plugs on the vehicle and the four pull connector itself . That's terminal grease, so it's designed specifically to prevent corrosion to the connection points. When it comes to the maximum amperage for the stop and turn lights, we're looking at three amps per circuit. And for the taillights, we're looking at six amps per circuit. That's gonna do it for today's look at the Hopkins plug in simple vehicle wiring harness with a four pull flat trailer connector.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver To Tow Small Trailer W/ 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser
Based on the information I could find on your 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser it has a towing capacity of 1000lbs as long as the weight of your passengers and luggage in the vehicle does not exceed 865lbs, though you will want to verify this by checking the owner's manual of your vehicle. For a trailer hitch receiver I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11132. To complete your towing setup you will need a vehicle wiring harness # HM11142435, drawbar # C45520, 1-7/8" hitch ball # C40001,...

  • Trailer Hitch Receiver and Towing Capacity for 2007 PT Cruiser
According to the owner's manual I looked up online, your 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser has a maximum towing capacity of 1,000 lbs and tongue weight capacity of 110 lbs. You'l want to verify that in your copy of the manual, but so long as you meet those capacities you are able to tow. There are two options for a trailer hitch receiver for your vehicle, the Draw-Tite # 24759 and Curt # C11132, and I highly recommend the Curt because it does not require drilling to install while the Draw-Tite...
