Video Transcript for Review of GSI Outdoors Camping Tools - Cathole Trowel - 3732010

Ellen: Hey everyone. I'm Ellen 00:00:02 Here at etrailer.com and we'll be taking a quick look at the GSI Outdoors Cathole trowel. So this helps you to keep the outdoors clean and leave no trace behind. It actually does a partner with Leave No Trace, which is an organization that seeks to educate people on how to enjoy the outdoors without leaving any trace behind. So stewardship for our earth is very important and GSI has committed to that. So this is one way to help do that by properly disposing of your waste while you're in the back country. So we can take a closer look at this trowel and see what kind of features it has.

So this is made out of recycled or repurposed Lexan, which is a type of polycarbonate it's very durable. So it should be up to the task for many years to come, does have an etched edge, might be a little bit hard for you guys to see, but it should be able to break ground even in stubborn areas and kind of has teeth to dig in there.Something that's pretty nice too, is that on the back, it does have engraved in there some instructions reminders on how to properly dispose that waste, making sure that you're in an inconspicuous area well away from any kind of trails or water sources, and also how far to dig in to the earth and how big to make that hole to make sure that everything biodegrades properly.Of course you want to then cover everything up with that dirt that you dug out, cover it up to make it look inconspicuous and so on. There's also on the front here, etched in some markers as to the depth or width that you're making that hole. So we'll have one, two, three, four, five inch marks and two, four, six, eight, ten, twelve centimeter marks. The total length for the belly of that trowel is about six inches.

So once you get up here to the top, that's six inches and that's usually about as far down as you need to go, kind of depends on what sort of area you're in. If you're in an arid area, you don't have to go down quite as far.Overall, it's a little over 10 inches long. Total width is about two and a half inches. And then that handles just about an inch thick. Now the color might vary since this is made out of recycled materials.

You can kind of see that there's some little discolorations through that shovel part of the trowel here, but it is covered by a limited lifetime warranty and 1% of the sale of this trowel does go to support, Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics. So that helps to provide funding for research, education, and initiatives to help everybody to venture outside and do so responsibly. All in all I think this is a really nice tool to have definitely something that's going to be essential if you're going to be backpacking into very remote areas for multiple days of time. Helps you to keep our environment pristine and enjoyable for many years to come for everybody. That's pretty much all there is to it for our look at the GSI Outdoors Cathole Sanitation trowel. I hope this video has been helpful. Thanks for watching..
