Hello, neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer and today we're taking a look at the BioLite Dash 450 headlamp. This is gonna be a great option for those of you that want hands-free lighting and really just a lot of great features packed into one headlamp. Now, this one is teal. There's also a red as well as a black version available. Now, I work on cars here at etrailer regularly, so it's my job, and also I do all my own house projects at home. I work on my project car.
So at all times, I'm always searching for better lighting, and some of it you can do overhead, but having a light that goes exactly where you're looking really comes handy. And I've done my research and I've really gone through, well, quite a bit of different headlamps and I actually use the black BioLite the most here at work and I also bring it home with me for a few different reasons, not just working on things. It's also really good for if you're out and about camping or if you're riding your bike or running. So it's gonna cover a lot of different things. Let's take a look at some of the features and show you why it might be one of the best ones yet.
And from my personal experience, I'm a huge fan, so I'll show you why. So just handling this, this is really lightweight and small. Some of the headlamps I've had are quite big and no matter how much you tighten them down, as you're moving, they're gonna wanna flop down and they just get in the way. And one of them was this one that I've had for quite a while. Big light, you can adjust the beam, which is neat, but really the features kind of stop there.
You get a strobe and high beam, low beam, but nothing in the back except for a battery pack. And, well, this one doesn't work anymore because it's corroded, but it takes three AAAs, and that's fine I suppose, but if you're out and about camping and you don't have batteries, more times than not, people have a power bank or something that you can charge something and that's where the BioLite starts to shine. It's a USB-C charging. And so it actually comes with the cable for you to charge it. So as long as you have a power bank or a 12-volt that goes to a USB, that's gonna be super easy to charge this up.
Other things that I like are gonna be the fact that not only can you charge it, but there's a battery indicator. So I do have some rechargeable ones as well, but they don't let you know when they're dead and normally they die exactly when you need them. So this one you can at least kind of maybe pace yourself. And that's something that's pretty cool too, is you have a high beam and a low beam. And on the low beam setting, there's 60 hours that you can get. High beam will cut it down quite a bit to three and a half hours. But still, if you're having high beam, you're really working on something, three and a half hours should be enough. And the low beam, it should be plenty for quite a bit. But something that's really cool with this is some of my other ones, I've thrown in a toolbox and they turn on and I didn't know it, so they're dead. This has a lock button. So if you push this gray tab at the top of the light for eight seconds, that'll unlock it. So really cool feature there. You know, small, but also if it saves you from having a dead battery, that's pretty neat. So going through the functions here, we have our high beam, as you can see, two of them, quite bright, and good beam pattern on this. If I hit it again here, we can get a strobe. We have a red light and there's our single beam here. So, and then you can go through and alternate those beams. You can get both of them going. So you have definitely a lot of options here. So if you're in an emergency and you need that flashing light, you can absolutely do that. That's all forward-facing. It's completely adjustable, which is really neat. You know, you can just move this. It's really high quality. It feels really nice. And that's something that the other ones, yeah, there's adjustability, but as I mentioned before, this big light is very heavy, and when you start to rotate it out, this one as well, again, that's just gonna want to droop down and I always catch myself having to readjust this. This one feels good. It's not too hard to move, but it's definitely sure-footed when you move it to where it's not gonna move on you. Now, that's just talking about the front light. But this also has a backlight, which for runners, bikers, anyone that's doing activities at nighttime, it's really, really nice. In fact, me and my wife did some walks around the neighborhood and my kids wanted to ride their bikes. They don't have lights on them and it was getting kind of dark. So, you know, as they ride ahead, I wanna make sure they're safe. I put these on them. They love it. They think it's cool. They can see exactly where it's at. But gives me peace of mind that there's a red light letting people know that are coming behind them that, you know, someone's riding a bike there. So definitely a cool safety feature that you don't see in others. You can even get a strobe feature so you can really get attention if you're out jogging or biking. Definitely worthwhile. Again, safety is paramount. So if it saves you one time from getting hit from a car, totally worth it. Light output is really, really good at 425 lumens. So, again, I've taken this out riding. You have the spot, you have a flood, a beam, you know, or both, and that way you can really direct the light exactly how you want it. So if you're trying to see a wide range versus maybe you're on a trail and you wanna see the roots, you can change that at the push of a button, which is really nice. And the material's really nice too. It's almost like a neoprene feel to it. Super high quality. And then as far as getting this on your head and adjusting it, you have two little straps here. Let me just put this on, tighten this as necessary, and it's gonna stay on really well. I'm a huge fan of these. And I'm not trying to be biased here, but I have the black version of this. I use it all the time and I've yet to really find anything that I dislike or that the other ones have shown to be a little bit better. So the lightweight I think is huge. Again, if you're working on something long-term, light is good. And that means also that, you know, if you have a hat on, I put mine over my hat, you really don't notice it's there. So really, really cool overall. All the wiring, it's coiled up so it's not gonna get tangled in anything. You have some rubber straps that'll kind of keep everything nice and tidy once it's on your head as well. I've sweat all over mine and it's still holding up just fine. So, you know, if you're running out in the, you get caught in a storm, you don't have to worry about it causing any issues. And that's something else, too. You'll see this reflective portion. So if you are out running and, you know, hopefully they see the back with that red strobe, but from the front, if you don't have your light on or maybe you just have, you know, maybe they don't catch it, having that extra reflection is just gonna add a little bit more to let people know that there's someone that this headlamp is attached to. Not only is it lightweight and durable, but, also, the footprint's small, which is really, really nice. Some of the other ones, they fold up just fine. This one is the smallest. So to throw this in a packout bag or, you know, take it with you in your car, whatever it may be, it's not gonna take up a bunch of space. But for those times that you need it, it really comes in handy. And the biggest thing is I grew up as a flashlight holder for my dad and I'd try to spot it and being able to see exactly where you're looking really makes it nice and to have that adjustability so that way, you know, you don't have to move the flashlight or worry about clamping a light somewhere. It's gonna be exactly where you're looking. And that really makes it easy for working in tight spots where, you know, you can't really hold that flashlight, you get both of your hands back. And I found that doing house projects, we we inchesre painting and my wife was doing the cutting in and couldn't quite see the corners. I gave her my BioLite headlamp and she could see it exactly perfect to get those clean lines. So it really doesn't matter if you're camping, running, whatever it may be, if you're gonna take a flashlight somewhere or need extra light somewhere, you might as well make it hands-free, rechargeable. Really just cover a lot of different things with this. So with that all being said, let's hop in this enclosed camper. We'll get it nice and dark and show you what the different light patterns do. So in the enclosed trailer, there's a little bit of light peeking through, but this is a great way to figure out exactly what our lights are doing. So, currently, it looks like we have our high beam and it looks pretty solid here. So as I press it again, we have our low beam. So you can see, definitely not as intense, but a nice wide spread here. So let's do this again. And here we have both of them. So not only do you get a wide spread, but also a nice sharp beam pattern there. So you get distance as well as width, which is really great. And then a nice little strobe there for a rave party or for safety. And we also have a red light here too. So if you maybe don't need to see anything, but you want to, you know, let people know where you're at, this is a great way to do that as well. So, again, high beam. I'm looking in this completely pitch black trailer and I could do all the work necessary and pretty easily with no hands. I can see exactly where I'm looking. If I needed to work down, I could just angle this however I need. So, again, lots of adjustability and just really, really great light overall. Now, if the line of lights that we've taken a look at are maybe not enough for you, you can step up to a larger BioLite that's got a lot of the same features. It's just gonna have more lumens, a little bit more output. So you do have options there. But also if maybe the ones we looked at were a little too much and you wanted even smaller of a footprint for just out jogging, they have those available as well without that rear light. So really they have a light for whatever application you may need and just take a look at their offerings here at etrailer.
