A Safe Ride is a Comfortable Ride

If you're looking for the best tie-downs for your camper, frame-mounted is the way to go. The frame is the most solid part of your entire vehicle, so it just makes sense to attach your camper to something that's not going to warp, bend, or twist. Even more importantly, the camper's center of gravity will sit lower and its weight will be spread across the entire bed. This avoids a top-heavy load perched on top of your bed rails that's liable to sway and get pushed around by crosswinds. The camper's not going to shift or slide around while you drive; it's going to stay put, and your truck is going to handle just like it does without a camper.

Quick Tip: If you have a plastic or spray-in bed liner, it's important that you use a rubber mat under the camper to eliminate any sliding or bouncing.

Don't Ruin Your Truck's Looks

Frame-mounted tie-downs are also a great pick for preserving your truck's good looks. The brackets install on the frame, tucked nearly flush with the underside of the vehicle. Remove the arms from the brackets when you're not hauling your camper, and the brackets will be barely visible.

Custom Fit, No-Drill Installation

Completely custom to your vehicle, the tie-downs attach to exisiting holes in your frame so that there's little to no drilling and no need for any modifications. Because they're custom, you'll want to use our in-house application guide to make sure you get the exact right model. The tie-downs you need might be different depending on what type of hitch or other accessories you have.

Securing Your Camper

TorkLift Tie Down Example

Once the tie-downs are installed, use a set of turnbuckles (sold separately) to secure the camper to the tie-downs. The shank on each arm has 2 pin holes so you can choose how far out they extend, that way the turnbuckles can reach the anchors on your camper without making contact with your truck. Tighten the turnbuckles to the correct level of tension (not too tight!).

where to put camper tie downs

Make sure the anchor points are offset from the tie-downs instead of lined up with them so that they will hold your camper from multiple angles. This is important for keeping your camper from shifting. Two holes in the attachment plate of the tie-downs let you find the best angle for you camper anchors.

Video Transcript for Comprehensive Review: TorkLift Tie Downs-TL27PR

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this TorkLift Custom Camper Tie-Down Set. Now these tie-downs are gonna provide the attachment points at the front of your truck bed to secure your truck camper's turnbuckles. The rear tie-downs are sold separately but you will need those as well so that you have a tie-down at all four corners. This kit is designed specifically for your GMC Sierras and Chevrolet Silverados. It is going to fit on lots of different packages of your Silverados and Sierras.

So, I would recommend using our vehicle fit guide here at etrailer.com. You'll select your year, make, and model, as well as the trim package and different accessories and that sort of thing, and we'll help you narrow it down to make sure that it's gonna work for you. But this is going to be custom fit for the Sierra and Silverado body type. These brackets are frame mounted, so they are gonna fit tight up against the truck frame so you're not gonna lose any ground clearance. And that's gonna also help to ensure excellent handling by securing the camper to your truck's base instead of up on the bed rails.

It's going to better distribute the weight and help keep the setup from being too top heavy. They do include some instructions here to walk you through the installation process as well as the hardware that you're gonna need to get these mounted in place. One of the really outstanding things about this design is that unlike with your other turnbuckle attachment points that are kind of unsightly tab that's sitting between your truck bed and your cab, these are going to be very inconspicuous. They're going to be virtually undetectable when you're not using them. So, these attachment points slide out and then you just have this portion that's gonna sit basically up beneath your body of your truck.

So, you're really not gonna see it when you don't have these installed. These do have a couple different mounting points, so depending on the width of your camper if you need the wider one, you can use that farther out one. You just slide that back, get those holes lined up and pass your pin through. That's gonna give you that sturdy connection. If you do need a, if your camper's a little bit more narrow, you can slide it back to the further end point there and that's gonna make sure that you have a nice snug fit.

So, very simple to remove when you're not using them and then get them installed when you do need them, and then get your turnbuckles attached there. These are made here in the USA of a very sturdy steel construction. You can see they do have a powder coat finish on them. That's gonna help resist corrosion, which of course can be very beneficial since these are going to be attached underneath your truck to your frame. So of course, salt and corrosion, that sort of thing is pretty common in that area so having that powder coat finish is gonna be important for you. But these do come with a lifetime warranty so if you we're to have any issues with them, you're more than welcome to reach out to us here at etrailer.com. But overall, I think these are gonna be a great way to go especially if you care about the look of your truck. If you're not wanting those unsightly tabs on there, this is gonna be a very inconspicuous way especially when you're not putting your camper in your truck bed, you can take those arms out, and then when you need it, you can put 'em back in and you'll have a nice, sturdy connection. That completes our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching.
