Video Transcript for Complete Breakdown of the Trailer Horse Pad Screw

Hello neighbors, Steven here with etrailer.com. Today we're looking at this simple trailer horse pad screw. That's right folks, so this is gonna be used for screwing in the padding on a trailer horse pad. So I'll pop an an image up here on the screen in front of me, just to give you an idea of what those horse pads look like. We do sell those separately. You get 'em in different shapes and sizes.

Keep in mind those horse pads are just simply a, like a wood back with a nice foam and like, a leather type finish in black over the top of 'em. So these screws, folks are gonna go through that wood backing into wood on your trailer. So again, these are not a metal screw. They're not self-tapping or anything like that. They're a simple wood screw.

They're a number eight by three quarter inch long, and they've got that finish washer built inside of there that you can see. And if you can see the back part here. So when you tighten that down, this will kind of give a little bit and almost pinch down just a little bit and let you know that it's secure. So again, a nice simple screw again for finishing and installing your trailer horse pads. Folks, that's gonna wrap it up for our look at this trailer horse pad screw.

I'm Steven, thanks so much for watching.

For the price you can buy a box of self tapping metal screw and they work fine. I pre-drilled the holes for these and still broke two off just screwing them in. Not the best metal used.

I was very happy with the quality of the products, prices, and super fast shipping! I priced out the same items at another store and the shipping was more than the items. I highly recommend etrailer for any of your trailer needs. I will be ordering the rest of my parts for here in the future.

Works great with the trailer pads.

Easy to install and looks really good holding up the new pads. I was lucky, but I'd suggest ordering one or two extra in case one gets dropped.

These are not self-tapping screws. These are designed to secure horse pads to wood panels and walls. We do have some self-tapping screws that I have linked to below.

  • What Screws Are Needed To Install 60" Horse Trailer Vinyl Pad?
The Trailer Horse Pad Screw # PS-8 will allow you to install the 60" Horse Trailer Side Pad # HTP1260BK on your steel trailer/divider. This screw is 3/4" long and will require a 1/8" pilot hole on your steel trailer. I recommend using at least 24 screws which will allow you to place them roughly every 6" on center to hold it in place.

  • How Many Screws Should be Used to Install the Horse Trailer Side Pads part # HTP60BK

  • Are Washers Needed When Installing Horse Trailer Side Pads?
A 3/8" self tapping screw seems a bit large for the Horse Trailer Side Pads # HTP1260BK but I do recommend always using a washer like the 3/8" # 01292006-020-01. This will help spread out the surface area which means the pad is less likely to rip on the screw head. We typically recommend the Trailer Horse Pad Screw # PS-8 which has a small coned washer already on the screw.

  • Is the 24 Inch Horse Trailer Breast Pad Pre-Drilled
Horse trailer pad # HTP24BK does not come pre-drilled because then it would limit what and where it could fit. We also recommend trailer horse pad screw # PS-8 to mount the pad. The screws are sold in quantities of 1.

  • Comparing Trailer Horse Pad Screws and Self-Taping Screws for Horse Trailer Side Pads
The Trailer Horse Pad Screw part # PS-8 will work great for attaching Horse Trailer Side Pads like part # HTP60BK. That said, you may need to drill a small pilot hole into the backing first depending on the material. I suppose you could use a standard self-tapping screw like part # 1131832 as well but there is no built-in washer on these and you risk stripping the hole much easier this way as well.

  • Recommended Screws for the Horse Trailer Pad HTP24BK

  • Recommended Screws to Install Horse Trailer Pads
The PS-8 screws should work very well going into either material you mentioned. The threads are coarse enough that they'll get good hold on the aluminum or the rubber. For best results, you'll want to ensure that as many screws as possible go into the wall support framing behind that aluminum skin for maximum hold.

  • Mounting Screws for Installing Pads in Horse Trailer
Our horse trailer pad items such as 60-inch Side Pad # HTP60BK and 24-inch Breast Pad # HTP24BK don't come with included hardware because the requirements between different trailers can vary so much depending on the type of material the pads are mounted on. But we do offer a number 8 screw 3/4-inches long that has a finishing washer on it, part # PS-8. If this 3/4-inch length is suitable for your trailer then this is an excellent option. These are sold individually (qty of 1).

  • How to Attach the Premium Horse Trailer Side Pad to the Trailer Wall
There is not a specific method for attaching the Horse Trailer Side Pad, # HTP60BK, to the trailer wall. You can use the Trailer Horse Pad Screw, # PS-8, but like you said it will puncture the material. Another option you have is to apply adhesive to one side of the horse pad to attach it to the trailer wall. I would recommend using a strong adhesive that can be purchased at your local hardware store. Be sure the back surface of the pad and the mounting surface of the trailer wall are...

  • How to Install Redline Horse Trailer Pads
When replacing your horse trailer pads, be sure to pad all dividers and walls. The pads are constructed of a very durable vinyl sewn over 2" of foam onto rigid cardboard. They stand the test of time and hold up in all climates. There is no need to add additional backing to the pads, but if you choose to do so, you can mount them to 1/4" plywood and then mount them to the walls of your trailer. The pads are surrounded by a 1" border where there is no padding. This is where you will want...

You may be able to re-cover your existing side pads but by the time you get all the materials to do this (vinyl fabric, glue, staples) it may be more cost-effective to replace them with the Redline Horse Trailer Side Pad # HTP40BK.
