The ShakeStopper gives you the flexibility to mount your hitch above or below your RV bumper. You can mount your hitch receiver below the bumper if your camper body hangs over your bumper. You can also mount it above to give your bike rack or cargo carrier an extra 6" of clearance to avoid scraping on uneven surfaces when entering or leaving parking lots or crossing roads.
No more loud, shaky rides and damage to your bike rack or cargo carrier. Unlike conventional bumper-mounted hitches that often tighten down the shank using set screws that cause instability and dents, the ShakeStopper has a unique clamping design that firmly holds your bike rack or cargo carrier in place to help reduce noisy rattling and avoid damage to your shank from rocky, bumpy rides.
The shank is held in place between a 1/4" steel base plate and 2 free-floating pressure plates. The heavy-duty retention bolts are used to tighten the pressure plates down, creating a clamping force to reduce movement of your hitch-mounted accessory. The base plate helps distribute the load when the pressure plates are engaged to prevent denting and other damage. Shank locks in place with a 5/8" hitch pin and clip (sold separately).
Most bumper-mounted hitches use load-bearing fasteners, such as U-bolts, to carry the weight of hitch-mounted accessories, like a bike rack or cargo carrier. The bolts can easily dent your bumper if over-tightened and tend to loosen over time, causing your hitch to bounce and shake while driving down the road, leading to more damage on your bumper. This unique design was constructed with a retention fastener to firmly clamp the side plates and base plate around your bumper to reduce the risk of damage.

Thanks for popping over to the etrailer garage. Today I'm gonna show you the Mountain Lock Shake Stopper RV bumper receiver. So this is gonna allow you to add or a second receiver or a receiver in general to the back of your bumper. So let's take a closer look at it and see what it does for us. So the Shake Stopper is available in a few different sizes and capacities. Now these guys right here is going to just attach to your bumper in a way where it's not crimping down like the U-bolt style that you've seen around.
All these plates kind of compress and evenly hold the parts together without having any welds it's gonna have a tighter fit and it's gonna give you a nice easier ride because generally when you reduce vibration, it's less wear on your gear and everything just gives you a better experience. It's not made for towing, but cargo baskets, spare tire holders, bike carriers, things like that, that's it's for that all day long. Alright, so as far as the assembly, it's pretty straightforward. The instructions are okay as far as getting you in the right direction. You're gonna start with the plate here and then you're gonna get through your two side panels.
They're gonna fit right into the rectangles and the spacing right here is gonna fit on your four inch or whatever size bumper. So I'm just gonna prop that up and then do the same with the other piece. So now you're gonna make sure that you get the elongated rectangular piece with the tabs installed over the two notches here. You're not gonna be able to, you're gonna have to take it all back apart if you don't get that part on now. And then from here, we're gonna make sure that we take one of our bolts in the barrel and install it and we'll just feed it through underneath.
And that just makes it a lot easier for you to run your bolt on the other side and on the front we're just gonna do that same thing. We're gonna hook it over and bring it into place. And now we're gonna grab our bolt and fasten it in. And as you see, this sky is really starting to take shape without a lot of effort. Now this is actually a point where you may feel tempted to tighten it all the way down.
Just give yourself a little bit of give where you can still hear it rattle some just to give yourself a little play. From here we're gonna put our top plate on where we make our adjustment with our nut. And then we're going to grab our two smaller brackets. Now these guys are gonna go onto these two tabs that are sticking out. We're just gonna feed those through the slots here, kind of aligning the notches with the tabs. And this is where our anti-rattle bolt is gonna fit underneath. We're just gonna lift it up, slide it into place, and we can hand tighten this guy down. Now to keep everything where it should go, you're gonna have two cotter pins and I'm just gonna feed 'em through the holes. Now I'm not gonna pull the tabs on 'em like you would with a pair of pliers 'cause this is just a demo, but generally that's what you would do. You would pull 'em open just to keep 'em from sliding out, kind of how this one did. You pop those tabs open and now it's in place. Now that you have everything assembled, you can go ahead and get everything nice and fastened. You want to just make sure you're not overt tightening, just wanna just give it just enough where you can feel that tension and it's no longer rattling. Now on the top you are gonna take your three quarter and this is where you're gonna get an additional tension on the top to remove any rattle on the shank that you have on the inside. So this is just basically gonna clinch down around the bumper and the receiver tube. And you also have a opening for your receiver pin or lock. When it comes to RV bumper hitches, you know it gives you a lot of extra flexibility as long as you don't intend on trying to tow with it 'cause it's not made for it it gives you a lot of versatility as far as getting those spares and those additional hitch accessories. And actually it'd be pretty cool if you could think of another safe, unique way to use this product. Go ahead and send a photo and link it below because we just love having that interaction with you. Now again, my name's Ed. This is etrailer.com and it's been a look at the Mountain Lock Shake Stopper RV bumper receiver. Have a great day.
Awesome Product. Sturdy and safe.
E trailer always great to work with!
works perfectly
I ordered for a 5” rv bumper. As advertised! This actually fits a 5.3” bumper. My bumper measures exactly 5” outside.
This works so great! We had an unusual bumper size and were in a pinch and confused and their excellent customer service taught us stuff and walked us through the process. SERIOUSLY great customer service and it matches their excellent products!
I had to deepen the notch on the two small plates approximately 1/8”, so the 2” tubing could enter the receiver.
Worked perfect for the 5" MountnLock aluminum bumper. Heavy duty.
Great for bike rack no movement easy to install
Solid high quality metal. Clever design and engineering. Good instructions with photos.
Mounted it on an 4" RV bumper per directions. I ordered this model because it was rated for well over my intended use. I installed a 45 lb rack and carried a 119lb Generator. Nothing else. I watched it very carefully. It started to collapse. Don't trust it for over 100lbs period!
very good bracket, quality built
