Hello, neighbor, this is Curt with etrailer. And today we're taking a look at the Kuat Pivot XD MOLLE panel. Now, this is a MOLLE panel that you will add on to your Pivot XD. It's gonna give you a nice place to carry any extra gear that you need while you're out on the trail. Now, a MOLLE panel is a really, really good way to carry that extra gear with you on the trail and be able to get to it quickly. So rather than being in a truck bed, or in a cargo box, or anything like that, this is gonna be really quick access.
So on our MOLLE panel today, we've gone ahead and mounted our gas can. And this is gonna be a really good place for it. So on our particular setup that we have here on our Gladiator, we also have the Kuat IBEX truck bed rack system. So this is gonna have MOLLE panels that you can add to it as well. And as far as the type of gear you can put on here, we've got gas cans like this, there's all sorts of recovery tools and recovery boards, all sorts of things that can be mounted to a MOLLE panel.
Now, what I would consider when I'm doing this, a lot of times, is weight. So we do have a 50-pound capacity on our MOLLE panel right here. You know, with setting everything up to go out for a long excursion, I would probably keep my lighter stuff up here where it's higher up and harder to manage, and my heavier stuff back here. So for instance, recovery boards, maybe some of the lighter-weight shovels and things like that that you might take out with you, while I put the heavier thing, like a full gas can, back here where it's just a little bit easier to reach. Now, this gives you a decent amount of service to attach those items.
It is kind of your typical MOLLE panel, so finding accessories to attach to this shouldn't be a problem. We've also got a mounting position up here for a spare tire holder, which can be important for anybody who has, you know, a door that swings away this way, like if you have a Bronco or a Wrangler, if you have a van that opens up, also, if you have a truck like this with a tailgate. Getting a spare tire mount on there can be crucial for anybody that wants to get access in and out of their cargo space. Now, in the case of the Gladiator like this, of course you have a tire mounted up underneath the bed, but you can always upgrade to bigger wheels and bigger tires, and at some point, you can get to the area where it's just too big to fit down there. That's where a tire mount on this is gonna come in really handy and allow you to be able to mount your tire, your bigger tire up here as long as the clearances are within it, and still get access in and out of your tailgate.
So with the use of the MOLLE panel, we're still able to use our hitch accessory here. However, if you're worried about clearance, the Pivot XD actually has two different hitch pin holes here. So if you wanna use this for scale for measurements to see if your accessory's still gonna work with whatever you're loading up on the MOLLE panel, the distance from the surface of the MOLLE panel to the first pinhole is 4 3/4 inches, and to the outer pinhole is 6 3/4 inches. So when you're considering the weight capacity on the Pivot XD, we're considering at this point the weight of the bike, the weight of the bike rack and the weight of our gas can. Now, please be aware that this MOLLE panel is specific to the Pivot XD. There are several versions of the Pivot from Kuat, but the XD is the version that's gonna have the weight capacity and the off-road capability to be able to use this MOLLE panel. Plus the XD has pre-drilled holes in the top in order to get this mounted. So let's go ahead and take a look and see how we got it installed. Now, for installation, what I would recommend that you do first is go ahead and open up the arm to your Pivot XD. It's just gonna be a lot easier to manage from there. And also, always double-check your hardware, make sure you've got everything. So what you're gonna end up with, provided from Kuat, is going to be an 18-millimeter wrench. We're gonna get this hex tool, three different bolts, two of them are longer than the other. We'll have five washers and two nuts to go along with it. Now, a couple of tools that you'll wanna provide on your own just to make installation go a lot easier would be an 18-millimeter socket, as well as a torque wrench because there is a specific torque spec in your instructions in order to get your MOLLE panel on securely. So with all that being said, we're just gonna go ahead and take our MOLLE panel. And what we'll find at the top of our swing arm are these three separate holes for our bolts. So as we lift up our MOLLE panel, we're just gonna bring this around the front like this, get it on the arm, and get those bolt holes lined up. Now, with our bolt holes lined up, we're gonna take the two bolts that are longer, along with a washer for each of them, and I'm gonna go ahead and drop those right through. Now, this one here, because there's not any clearance with this, you're gonna wanna set the washer down first and then drop your bolt through. And we're gonna finish up each of these bolts with a washer and a nut. Now, I'm gonna go ahead and get these tightened up. And I'm gonna do that with the Allen key or the hex key, and I'm gonna try to hold it in place with this wrench down here. If this doesn't work, like I said, the socket is a bit easier, in my opinion, to use, but this will do a good job of getting it started. (wrench clacking) Now, the socket that I had originally picked out, there's a lot of exposed bolt under here as you put it through, so I went ahead and switched to a longer socket. So just a heads-up on that, a longer socket's definitely gonna be a better application for this installation. Now, our shorter bolt is going to go through up from the bottom and there's already a pre-threaded nut in there for us so we don't have to cap it off at the other end. So we're gonna take our last washer, feed it up, and we're just gonna start getting it threaded into place here. Now, once I get it hand tight, I'm gonna go ahead and grab my hex tool and get that finished up. Now, once you got 'em tightened down, grab your instructions and double-check your torque spec, grab your torque wrench, and get them tightened down completely. You're gonna need to put in the hex key up at the top to hold these in place. So I'm just using the MOLLE panel itself to kind of brace it. (torque wrench beeping) And as far as this solo bolt over here goes, you're gonna wanna get a 10-millimeter hex bit for your torque wrench in order to get that torqued down to spec. So that just about does it for putting that on our Pivot XD. I'm gonna go ahead and pull our safety pin, we'll get this shut. (metal clanking) And just for planning, this is gonna end up giving us a pretty good idea of what kind of visibility and stuff we're gonna have coming out with this MOLLE panel on. Of course, depending on what you're putting on it, it could change some of the visibility back here, and depending on the vehicle as well. But this gives you a pretty good idea of what everything looks like empty. So that's a look at the Kuat Pivot XD MOLLE panel. I'm Curt with etrailer. Thanks for stopping by.
