BOLT (Breakthrough One-key Lock Technology) has solved that problem by designing a line of locks that can operate with a key you already have handy - your vehicle ignition key.
When you insert your own key into the cylinder, spring-loaded plate tumblers move up and down until they are matched exactly to that key. The first time the key is rotated, the cylinder is uniquely coded to that key. When the key is removed, the cylinder moves into the locked position. When the key is turned again, it will rotate to the unlocked position.
BOLT is particularly useful in commercial applications. Imagine being able to send a crew without having to sign out multiple keys for a work truck, trailer, hitch pins, and equipment locks. With BOLT, the vehicle key becomes a master key. It opens all those locks and you no longer have the hassle of getting to a work site only to find that you've brought the wrong keys.

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Bolt Lock 6'-long cable lock. These things are designed for keying right to your factory ignition key. It's a very simple process. We'll just pull the sticker off of the end, pull that small plastic cover off. We'll take our ignition key. It goes right in.
We're going to turn it all the way over until we feel that stop. Turn it back, and just like that we've got our lock keyed - as you can see, it's locked up there - to our factory ignition key so we're always going to have the right key on hand when we need it. They use an automotive-quality lock. It's got a six-plate tumbler in it so you're not going to have to worry about the picking or anything like that. There's a stainless steel shutter that's designed to keep out the dirt and debris from getting in there to our cast zinc cylinder, so we're going to have superior corrosion-resistance. As you can see here, an easy-grip hard rubber handle on the outside is going to protect the lock.
It attaches to our stainless steel rustproof pin using a double ball bearing system located right inside. This is also going to lock automatically when we take our key out so we don't have to worry about leaving it open or accidentally not locking it. They also make these right here in the United States and are going to offer you a limited lifetime warranty. The 6'cable is 1/4" in diameter. It's got a vinyl coating on it that's going to help protect from scratching whatever we're connecting to and also whatever we're securing. The breaded cable inside is going to protect against saw-throughs or from cuts.
It's a really durable, sturdy piece. Now that we've gone over all the features of our cable lock let's show you how it works. Now we've got our coiled cable here. We just want to work that through whatever we want to attach. In this case we've got our generator here and we just want to secure it. We've got it strapped in but now it's time to keep it from going anywhere.
We bring our cable lock around whatever we're going to use it for. This is also great for use as a bike lock if you want to go that route with it. Just bring our cable down here in the front. We'll pass the steel end through our looped end. The lock clicks right onto the end of that. We got it nice and secure. Then we'll bring our rubber cover over there to protect that lock cylinder further. As you can see, with the coiled design it says bunched up so any slack that you're going to have you're not going to have to worry about dragging or hanging down. Is going to be nice and secure and compact. Now that we've gone over all the features and we've seen how it works, that will complete today's look at Bolt line of 6' cable locks. .

Heavy duty, easily keyed
Bolt locks are great. Have a Jeep and off road trailer. My greatest fear is to get up in the mountains to camp a left a trailer key at home. No problem now Jeep key unlocks everything. Your service is great.

This is my third lock from BOLT. I have the cable lock and two receiver locks. I know I will be buying at least one more receiver lock in the future. These are well made strong and durable. The biggest benefit is that I can use my ignition key for all the locks and don't have to add individual keys and extra weight for each lock to my key fob.
The concept for this cable lock is ingenious, when first received, pair the lock with your truck key! You will alwasy have your key with and you already have a sparek key. New keys can be obtained from a dealer.
It's a new truck that I plan on having for a long time so why not?
The cable seems like a standard security cable, and the lock is heavy enough to match the weight of the cable.
Overall it's decent enough to prevent honest people and thieves of opportunity from stealing my property. However, It will easily be defeated by a thief who is prepared. There are other methods to account for that. I plan on making it not worth the while for any would-be thief to go after my stuff, and this is only part of the plan.
The key pairing is easy to do and locking/unlocking is also easy.
I like this product, I will add to my collection of the various locks and devices it works with.
I have this bolt lock, keyed to my Jeep ignition key. The self-keying is simple and takes less than a minute. I also have the other bolt products including a trailer tongue receiver pin lock, pad lock and Jeep hood lock. They are all excellent products.
First, e-trailer customer service is superb. No sooner than I had confirmed my order I was contacted and informed that the manufacturer was behind on supplies and that my order would be delayed. Even though I was dissapointed, I couldn't help but admire that I was not given a runaround; this shows true integrity and concern for their customers....that being said the product arrived as described and works as stated in the description. I just inserted my stock vehicle key, inserted it, a 3/4 turn clockwise and the lock mechanism was keyed to the vehicle key. After that just a quick 1/4 turn clockwise and the lock mechanism releases the cable end...simple as that!!
I bought this lock to keep a Little Giant Ladder unstolen in my truck bed. After a year of weather and some attempts by low tech stealers, my ladder remains unstolen. Also the lock is keyed the same as my taco truck key, so I always have the right key. The lock is well made, hefty, and durable. I recommend this lock.
Works exactly as advertised. It you want a cable lock that uses your Jeep key, go for it.
Don't buy if you have a new Ford truck it does not work with the new style keys.
