Question:

2012 Escalade towing 7400 lbs. with WD hitch. Do you recommend a time delayed or proportional controller? And which controller would you recommend?

Hands down I recommend a proportional controller. Proportional controllers apply the trailer brakes in proportion to how much your 2012 Cadillac Escalade is braking. So if you brake hard, it will apply more voltage to the trailer brakes to match. Same thing with light braking, the controller will match.

Time delay controllers send back a pre-determined amount of voltage that ramps up over a set period of time no matter what the braking situation is. The benefit though is that time delay controllers do not have to be mounted in a specific position to work.

Based on the different ways the two types of controllers work, proportional controllers are the safest way to stop and reduce wear and tear on the tow vehicle and the trailer. I recommend the P2 # 90885. It is our most popular proportional controller because it is easy to set up, easy to use, and it is reliable.

The wiring for the brake controller should be present under the dash of the Escalade. You will need to look under the dash, to the left of the steering column. There will be a wire bundle with a white tag. That is the bundle you need. I have included a couple of links to the right that should help with installation.
