Question:
Will this carrier clear the exhust fumes? I had a similar carrier in the past and the exhaust fumes damaged the carrier bag. Thanks.

The Carpod Hitch Cargo Carrier, part # M2200-01-02, may fit the hitch on your 2013 Lexus GX 460, but there are a couple of things you may want to consider.
The first thing you will want to know is if the carrier will clear the rear bumper of your GX 460. I have attached a helpful article that explains how you can take a quick measurement to select the right cargo carrier for you. You will need a tape measure and a straight edge like a yardstick or a dowel. Hold the straight edge vertically against the rear edge of your bumper making sure it extends below the hitch. Then simply measure the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the straight edge. This is the minimum distance you need for clearance for any hitch mounted accessory.
The # M2200-01-02 measures 4 inches form the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest edge of the carrier. When recommending cargo carriers we recommend about 12 inches to be safe from the exhaust. We do have some solutions that may work for you.
I recommend the Carpod Hitch Cargo Carrier, part # M2205-01-02. This carrier has very similar dimensions as the # M2200-01-02, but the biggest difference is that it has a shank that has a 5 inch rise and the closest part of the carrier is 13 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole. If the additional rise of 5 inches puts the carrier above your exhaust, you should be good to go.
Another option would be to install a turndown exhaust tip on your GX 460. I have attached a link to our product page that features the turndown exhaust tips we offer. They vary in length and finish and size, so you can use the filters on the left of the page to find an exhaust tip that may work for you. Using a turndown tip would deflect the heat from the exhaust downward, avoiding the cargo bag or carrier.
