Question:
We have a 2023 Subaru Forester with a factory installed hitch 2 and are looking at possibly purchasing this carrier. We have seen many reports of the exhaust causing the plastic corners of the carrier to melt and also the cargo in the carrier to melt as well. Is there a heat shield available to mount on this to protect the corners of the carrier and the cargo inside? Or do you know of any other options we might have.

I have a solution for you but I don't have any options for heat shields to protect your cargo when mounted on the Flint Hill Goods Cargo Carrier item # FHG27ZR. This will be an issue with any cargo carrier or accessory you mount on your Forester so the best option will be to point your exhaust down and away from the rear of your Subaru.
To do this you will want to change out your exhaust tip. You will need to measure the diameter of your exhaust pipe to determine which one you will need. I have listed the options below:
MagnaFlow 4" Exhaust Tip item # MF35181
MagnaFlow 3-1/2" Exhaust Tip item # MF35178
MagnaFlow 3" Exhaust Tip item # MF35180
MagnaFlow 2-1/2" Exhaust Tip item # MF35179

Hi Jerred--I have to install some downward pointing exhaust tips on my 2022 Rav4 hybrid so that my new rear hitch cargo carrier (Stowaway2) doesn't melt. I removed the car's factory tips, and the tail pipe diameter appears to be 2.5 in. If I purchase the MagnaFlow # MF35179, is there a way to attach it without welding? One of the reviewers said they were able to do so.
