Can I Install A Propane Tank Inside A Tongue Mounted Toolbox?

Question:
I purchased this toolbox and planned to install on the tongue of my travel trailer. I plan to install both my battery and propane tank in it. Is this a bad idea because the propane tank and venting? if venting is a problem the only solution I can think of is to cut a hole in the bottom and install aluminum screen/grate in it. Any thoughts? ?

Hey Ray, thanks for reaching out. If you are set on placing the propane tank inside the toolbox, it can be done safely as long as the box is properly vented at the bottom. Propane is heavier than air, so if there is ever a small leak it will settle downward. Drilling a few 1-1/2 inch holes in the bottom of the toolbox allows any escaped gas to vent out instead of collecting inside the enclosure.
I would recommend covering those holes with aluminum screen or mesh to keep rodents and debris out while still allowing airflow. Just make sure the tank stays upright and secured, and that nothing inside the toolbox can damage the regulator or fittings. As long as it is vented low and not sealed tight, you are addressing the main safety concern.

Ray you definitely can install both battery and propane tanks in the box but, be sure you drill 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 holes in the bottom. In the corners . I also suggest couple more on the long side. I installed the same box on my Tab 320 camper. I had two propane tanks and one battery.
