Is there a King Pin Adapter for OEM Prep Package for My Inverted 5th Wheel Set-up?

Updated 11/03/2025 | Published 10/29/2025

Question:

Is there a way to tow a trailer with a Inverted 5th wheel using the factory puck system in my 2026 F450? In the past I have used the BW kingpin but this is my first truck with the OEM puck system.

Hello Ethan,

I really don’t like having to give a “No” answer, but unfortunately that’s the case this time. I’ve searched everywhere and haven’t found an option for a king pin adapter for inverted 5th wheel hitches that will go into an OEM Prep Package.

To make it work, you’d need to modify your trailer’s setup to use either a standard king pin or a gooseneck coupler. Then you could install either a 5th-wheel hitch that fits the pucks or a gooseneck ball in the factory system.

I’m sorry this isn’t the answer you were hoping for, but I wanted to make sure you had a clear picture of your options.

@Ethan Yes, that would definitely be another option! Changing out the whole bed of the truck might be easier though than trying to remove the OEM Prep Package. I only know that because a guy on my team thought it was a good idea to get a Ram with a Ram Box, he ended up swapping out the whole bed of the truck because those Ram boxes take up too much room. Said it really wasn't that hard to swap out.
