Maximum Length Hitch Extender for 2014 Toyota Tundra for Towing 1971 Aristocrat Trailer
Products Featured in This Question
Question:
Im towing a 1500-2000 lb 1971 Aristocrat 15foot trailer with a 2inch receiver on a 2014 Tundra. The Aristocrats tongue is super short, so, looking for an extension to move the trailer as far away from the truck as possible. Ive found 18inch extensions for 2inch receivers and up to 48inch extensions for 2-1/2inch receivers. Is there an extension for 2inch receivers greater than 18? Is there an adapter sleeve from a 2inch receiver to a 2-1/2inch extension, to handle the longer extensions? Thanks!!!

The 18 inch extension, part # HE18 is as far as you can safely go with a 2 inch receiver. Using an extension of any type reduces the tongue weight capacity (maximum amount of downward force that can be safely applied to the hitch) by 50 percent. The further away from the receiver you place the load, the greater the amount of leverage that is applied to the hitch. If the leverage becomes too much, the receiver tube can bend or the hitch connection points to the vehicle can fail.
There are longer extenders, but they are meant for dual-receiver hitches or for 2-1/2 inch receivers. There is unfortunately no adapter that would allow you to use an accessory meant for a 2-1/2 inch receiver in your existing 2 inch receiver.
