Recommended Air Bags for a 2021 Ford F-150 and Will Using a Lift Damage the Bags

Updated 08/15/2025 | Published 07/21/2025

Question:

Im looking into putting airbags for towing on my 2021 f150. I like the ones you sell that mount on the axle and not on the leaf springs. I have a lift to do work on vehicles and I want to know if there is any concerns upon damaging the air bags when the rear suspension is fully extended with the axle? I have heard that you can tear or damage the air bags. I have stock suspension with no aftermarket lift. Thank you for any advice you can offer.

Hey Tom, thanks for all of the information. The Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Air Helper Springs item # AL67PD you purchased are confirmed to fit your 2021 Ford F-150 so long as you do not have the PowerBoost hybrid engine, the Continuously Controlled Damping (CCD) suspension, or the Onboard Scales option.

You are exactly correct with your concerns about stretching the air bags. If you lift your truck up by the frame and let the axle hang freely you will damage the air springs in the item # AL67PD kit. Once you get them installed, you'll either want to prop up the rear axle if you're doing maintenance or unbolt the bottom tie plate holding the air bags to the axle.

I also recommend adding the Air Lift WirelessOne item # AL25980 to your truck. This onboard compressor will allow you to adjust the PSI in your air bags from your phone.

Hey Tom, did you get a chance to install the air bags on your F-150 yet? I'm curious if you found a good way to support the axle during maintenance. Let me know how it went, as it could really help others with similar setups!
