Best Way To Attach Safety Chain Brackets To An Aluminum Trailer Tongue

I am in process of adding my new Demco EZ latch. It is bolted up and is great. Next is new safety chains and desire to move them from bolted bottom of tongue to side so if a disconnect happens it would grind off. My trailer tongue is aluminum. How would you attach my new chains. Just a bolt and washer stack through the tongue behind the coupler? I am a stickler for safety and looking for does and font’s for the aluminum tongue mounting. Is there not a bolt on slightly angled tab to add or just bolt straight through with a grade 8. Thx

Hello again, John. I agree that the best way to attach safety chains to the side of the tongue on your aluminum trailer will be to simply attach a bolt and washer to the tongue behind the coupler. Any other chain bracket would require welding and that is not so easy with the aluminum. A bolt on each side will be, by far, the easiest way to get a secure chain attachment. Just be careful drilling into the aluminum frame and don't over-tighten the bolts. This could damage the aluminum tongue.
