Video Transcript for Feature Review 30" Long Safety Chain with 7/16" S-Hook with Latch

Hi there, safety-conscious haulers. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at Titan Chain's single S hook safety chain. These are available in either a 30 or 36 inch length. We're showing off the 36 inch length today. This is gonna be a great replacement chain if your old one is damaged or corrosion got the best of it. Our other chain here that we had on here had a damaged link and we didn't feel comfortable driving around with anymore, so we went ahead and replaced it.

And we're likely gonna be replacing the other one here as well, so that way, we've got two chains that are going to be a match set that are brand new, that we know we can rely on. This chain comes with an S hook that's pre-attached to it, and I like it better than our old ones. Our old chains here had S hooks on them but you can see, it just kind of comes right off of there and could vibrate around, and somebody come over and pull it off of there real fast. Our S hooks included with our safety chains from Titan have a clip on them and that ensures that our chain can't just fall off of there. Nobody can come along and actually grab it, just pull it off.

You have to actually push on the release tab in order to get it off of there. And when you go to attach it, you just push it into place, and the lever will move back automatically by itself. But you can see, it's not gonna be able to just come off of there once we get it into place. At the other end of our chain, it's just bare links, so that way, we can choose how we wanna attach it to our trailer. Whether you wanna weld it to the trailer, or attach it with a nut and a bolt, or my personal favorite way to get it attached is with a quick link.

That way, we can just quickly attach our chain right to it. And with a quick link here, we can easily choose the amount of length that we need. Because I do like that we can choose the length here because depending on the vehicle you're hooking to, maybe you've got a couple of different draw bars that you use for different trailers. And depending on which draw bar you got up there, you might have a slightly longer, lower or higher draw bar. And if you need one or two extra links, you can give yourself that length if you, you've got some extra there.

Or you could take out a couple of links just like we've done here if we don't need quite all that length. Regardless of which length you get, the chain is gonna be rated for 5,000 pounds. It does come as a quantity of one, so I do recommend picking up two. That way, you'll have one for each side, so you can ensure that you've got proper supplemental attachment. The chain is a steel construction with a zinc plated coating on it and that's gonna prevent rust and corrosion from occurring. So, you can see here, our old one's already starting to rust here. And the other one actually gotten so bad that the link had broken and was starting to separate, so that's why we had replaced it. This is just gonna ensure that this chain here is not gonna succumb to the same damage as our old one here so it'll last much longer. We'll get more use of service out of this one than our old ones. When attaching your chains to your trailer and your vehicle, you wanna cross your chains. So, you can see here that I've taken the driver's side of the trailer and I've hooked it over to the passenger side safety chain attachment on the vehicle. I did vice versa with the other chain, coming from the passenger side of the trailer to the driver's side of the vehicle. And what this does is this creates a cradle here where the chains cross. So, in the event of a catastrophic disconnect, our coupler here would be supported by the cradle and that would keep it up off the pavement. And that completes our look at Titan Chain's safety chain with single S hook..

  • Best Way To Attach Safety Chain Brackets To An Aluminum Trailer Tongue
Hello again, John. I agree that the best way to attach safety chains to the side of the tongue on your aluminum trailer will be to simply attach a bolt and washer to the tongue behind the coupler. Any other chain bracket would require welding and that is not so easy with the aluminum. A bolt on each side will be, by far, the easiest way to get a secure chain attachment. Just be careful drilling into the aluminum frame and don't over-tighten the bolts. This could damage the aluminum tongue....

  • Are Additional Safety Chains Needed To Use Curt Hitch Extension C45048?
When using the Curt Hitch Extension and Reducer for 2-1/2" Trailer Hitches - 24" to 34" Long # C45048 you were looking at the safety chains on your trailer will get connected to the front two safety chain loops. You will need two additional safety chains like # TCTSCG30-730-04x1 with quick links # TCQL531 to go between the rear safety chain loops and the trailer hitch receiver on your truck. I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.

  • Recommended Safety Chains For Trailer Weighing Up To 9000lbs
Since your trailer weighs around 2000lbs and can tow up to 7000lbs I recommend using two of the 30" Long Safety Chain with 7/16" S-Hook with Latch - 5,000 lbs - Qty 1 # TCTSCG30-730-04x1 which have a combined weight rating of 10000lbs which is plenty for your trailer. To secure them to the trailer I recommend using two of the Buyers Products Safety Chain Clip # 337SC44B which will get welded to the tongue of your trailer in a location that allows the safety chains to reach the safety chain...

  • Determining the Correct Length for Safety Chains
There is no perfect calculation for safety chain length since it all depends on the setup you have. Safety chains should be crossed when attached, and also short enough to keep your coupler off of the ground should your trailer disconnect. They also need to have enough slack to allow for sharp turns. Since the greatest length will be from the safety chain attachment point to the connection on your vehicle during a sharp turn, this distance is what you need to measure. Attach your trailer...

  • Coupler to Replace Shorelandr 3310010
While we don't have the exact Shoreland'r coupler you are looking for we can help since I was able to determine that the coupler is for a 2 inch ball, has a 3,500 lb towing capacity, and fits a 3 inch channel. So you could use the # CT-5003-Z which covers all of that. Then for safety chains you could use the part # TCTSCG30-730-04x1 which is sold individually and you'd be set.

  • Safety Chain Recommendation for 6 x 10 Trailer that Weighs 3k
Hey Neil, for a trailer that size and weight the 30 inch safety chains part # TCTSCG30-730-04x1 would work great as this is the typical size and capacity for a trailer that size. You would need to order a quantity of two of these. Each is rated for 5,000 lbs. To attach to your trailer frame you could use the part # C82932 as well.

  • Will The TCTSCG30-730-04x1 Chains Fit A 5/8" Bolt?
Hello Mike, thanks for reaching out. I went out to our warehouse and measured the # TCTSCG30-730-04x1 chain. It would fit a 1/2" bolt but not a 5/8" bolt. For a 5/8" bolt to fit you would need to go with a larger 1/2" diameter chain link like part # BPH26RR. Those are rated for 46,000 lbs as a pair.
