Is 1,200 lb Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Hitch Good For 800+ lbs of Tongue Weight

Updated 01/05/2026 | Published 09/12/2024

Question:

I currently have a Rv trailer with a tongue weight of approximately 900-1050 lbs. your item is EQ37120ET. It’s rated for 12,000 GTW and 1,200 TW lbs. I just bought a new trailer with a UVW of 600 lbs for tongue weight. I expect to have about 800+ lbs of loaded tongue weight due to some changes. Such as: 2-20 lb to 2-30 lb propane tanks. Plus 2 batteries instead of just one. In addition there is only one very large pass through area in the front of the trailer which will more then likely be pretty full. My question finally is do I need to make any changes to the hitch setup equipment. I realize I will have to make adjustments to the setup itself. Thanks for any advice you can give me on this. Jack Ps-The equalizer I bought from you guys is great. Much better than the Reese.

Hey Jack,

Good question and glad the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution # EQ37120ET is working out for you. But to answer your question, you do not need to make any changes to the equipment, you can use this hitch for 800 lbs (or a bit more) of tongue weight. That's exactly within the weight rating of the hitch and the hitch will work just as well in the 800+ lb area as it had.

Hey Jack, how has the Equal-i-zer hitch been working with your new trailer’s 800‑plus‑pound tongue weight? Your update could make it easier for others setting up a similar trailer.
