How to Determine if Thule Motion 3 Cargo Box Will Allow Rear Hatch to Open

Question:
I am comparing the Thule Motion 3 L and the Thule Motion XT L for a 2019 Honda CRV. They seem very similar, but the Motion 3 is listed as requiring more front clearance by Thule. Do you know if the Motion 3 will allow the rear hatch to open fully? Thanks for any information you can provide!

Hello Richard,
While I can tell you how to determine if you'll have clearance to open your rear hatch, I don't have any way of knowing outright if the rear hatch will open using the Thule Motion 3 Rooftop Cargo Box # TH67PN.
It's pretty simple though as all you have to do is measure from the center of the front crossbar on your CR-V to the point where the roof meets the hatch. If that measurement on your CR-V is 51-5/16 inches or more, you can still open the rear hatch even with the # TH67PN mounted.
