Can Older Thule T2 Bike Rack be Converted to Fit 29er Bike

Published 06/04/2024

Question:

I will have the same problem when I get my new 29er bike next month. I guess another option would be to replace the hook with a version that has a longer arm. Does this exist? I think the longer locking ratchet arm has the advantage that it extends the range so you can still clamp down bikes with smaller wheels. If you replace the hook, then you can't bring it in enough for smaller wheels. Note that I actually put my friend's 29ers on my old rack before. The workaround is to drop the front wheel below the side of the wheel holder, swing the hook over the wheel and then put the wheel in its holder. It works for occasional use, but is cumbersome to do every time.

Hey Juerg, so it sounds like you have an older Thule T2 bike rack and a 29er bike which we have a solution for that with the part # 753-3579 to replace the arm with one that is longer and will allow the larger wheel to be secured.

That is a cool trick that you came up with to allow a 29er to fit with the shorter arm though so thanks for taking the time to pass that on.
