Question:

I have a GMC 3500 SRW with a camper. We need a hitch extension around 30 inch. The weight is 7000lbs when its full and the weight on the tongue is 600 lbs. What do you I need to put in my truck to carry that?

Hey Emilie,

We can get your 2024 GMC Sierra 3500 set up with an extension, but to do so what you'll have to do is remove the factory hitch and install the TorkLift SuperHitch Magnum Trailer Hitch Receiver # TL74FR.

Reason for that is there isn't a hitch extension that is the length you need that will allow you to tow the weight you have. Then for the extension, there isn't one that is exactly 30 inches, but there is the 36 inch TorkLift SuperTruss Hitch Extension for SuperHitch Trailer Hitch Receivers # TLE1536.

An important note is that you do have to use weight distribution system to meet your weight capacities. On its own the extension is rated for 6,500 lbs towing/650 lbs tongue weight, but used with weight distribution it is 12,000 lbs towing/1,200 lbs tongue weight. If you already have weight distribution then you're set, but otherwise, for your 600 lb tongue weight a great option is the Blue Ox SwayPro # BXW0750.
