Troubleshooting A Non-Working Lift Motor On A Fan-Tastic RV Roof Vent

Updated 04/15/2024 | Published 04/14/2024

Question:

I have a 2004 Itaska Suncruiser. The lift motor stopped working on the Fan-tactic vent. I disconnected the wiring and when I test the wiring it will light the test bulb and then immediately go out. It will do the same thing when the wall switch is turned off and on.

Hey John,

If you're testing the wiring and there's power getting to the lift motor when the switch is in the off position then you either have a wiring issue or the vent is getting power from somewhere else. With the light going out immediately it sounds like it could be shorting out. What voltage are you reading when you test the power?

The lift motor could be going out but the power issues you're describing could be the reason why so I would verify that you're getting a constant 12 volts to the unit when the switch is on to rule out power being the issue. I would also check your ground as a bad connection can cause vents to act strangely. If the power is fine or you find and fix the issue and the lift motor is still not working then you can replace it with part # FVK6010-81.
