Trailer Brake Controller Recommendation for a 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500
Question:
What is the best/good solution for towing a 2 axle 7000lb trailer with electric brakes for my 2014 Silverado - I have a trailer towing package and 9000lb+ capacity - I have seen one illustration that provided a display on the info center above the steering wheel - also, this model does not have any apparent convenient location for the installation on the dash - I will be providing your information to my installer My dealer recommended them for the installation - bottom line, just want it to work

If you are concerned there is no where to mount a brake controller (something that comes up a lot since truck interiors are more and more car-like) then I have the perfect solution for you. You can use the Curt Echo Wireless # C51180 that uses a mobile device so it requires no wiring or mounting in your vehicle.
If you determine you want to use a more traditional style controller like the Spectrum # C51170 for a physical button, you will need to cut off the end that plugs into the controller on the harness and the end of the plug on the controller box and splice the wire color for color. The other end of the harness will plug into the vehicle junction box. The box is located underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column, just above the carpeting.
With this controller the manual override lever and the output display are separate from each other and from the main box increasing the mounting options.
Another option is to go with the P2, # 90885. You can mount this controller a full 360 degrees as long as the controller is in the direction of travel and not tilted or turned to one side. I have linked the instructions which show the mounting parameters. This is one of our most popular controllers because it is easy to set up and use and its reliable.
You would also need the 3016 harness with this controller but you will not have to cut off any plugs if you go with the P2.
