Installation of Tekonsha Brake Controller Adapter

This adapter plugs into the 4-pin connector in your vehicle's junction box. The box is located underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column, just above the carpeting.

To install your electric brake controller you need to connect the wiring of the controller to your vehicle. Certain manufacturers offer pre-wired options, typically known as tow packages, wherein these wires are run for you from the dash to the trailer connector on the back of your vehicle. Often, a brake controller wiring harness is included with your tow package. This harness plugs into a port beneath your dash and connects to the four wires of the brake controller. If, however, you have a brake controller with a plug in place of the four loose wires, you can use the Tekonsha adapter.

This adapter requires no hardwiring. It is designed to plug directly into your electric brake controller for the simplest installation possible. Because there are no wires to connect, installation is not permanent. You can unplug and remove your brake controller at any time and securely stow it away.

The wiring adapter I ordered was easy to install by following the included instructions! It is vehicle specific ,so I ordered one that fits my 2019 silverado 1500.It plugged into the 4 prong receptacle inside the block box under the dash to the left of the brake pedal against the fire wall. The other end plugged into the brake controller that I ordered(the wire adapter fits several different brands) I installed the Kenosha Primus IQ. Both items had concise, clear instructions with them. After finishing the install I plugged in the travel trailer and set the the brake controller by the instructions and it is working great! The install took me about 20 minutes. 735744

I purchased this for my 2014 Chevy Silverado long bed regular cab 4x4 work truck. It plugged in and worked fine and is great quality. The only disappointment was that it is too short in length. I would have liked to mount the controller right of the steering wheel, but it does not reach. It is only long enough to reach left of steering wheel. Not the end of the world. It works great. 121121

The Tekonsha (item 3016) wiring harness allowed me to move my Tekonsha brake box controller from a Honda to a GM product with effortless ease. Instructions of where the harness connection was located in the new location (exact fit). The ability to have no splicing of wires and a clean, factory style, connection for a low price with a trusted manufacturer was a must. Always happy with Tekonsha products and ETrailer service. 513732

2000 Chevrolet Silverado

I had purchased and used the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller on my 2000 Silverado with good results. When I got a new-to-me 2104 Silverado, I thought I could just buy a new cable and I was correct. It was delivered quickly and plugged in with no issues. The new truck's lower dash panel is more vertical than the older truck and I didn't want to drill holes in it for the mount, so I purchased heavy duty Velcro tape and cut it to fit. It has worked without issues. 446054

2015 GMC Sierra 1500

As expected, service and pricing from etrailer was exceptional. 8th order in the past year and always satisfied with the customer service side of a transaction. The cable was "factory" from Tekonsha and was of very good quality, but it was about 8" too short for me to mount the brake controller on the right side of the steering column away from the door. I had an old wiring adapter from my previous truck and cut and spliced in a 12" section so that I could mount the controller where it was least in the way and easily accessible to me, the driver. And, if I need to move the controller in the future I now have plenty of slack. One more step, but not a big deal. All is good! 559160

I was in a bit of a spot and needed a trailer braking system in a hurry for my 2018 GMC Sierra pickup. After looking around at all the local automotive shops and part stores in the area... I was at my wit's end as no one that I spoke with had any information as to whether or not the unit they had would work for my truck. So I jumped online as it was getting down to crunch time and I needed the unit as I was to pick up the travel trailer and a couple of days. I went online and found etrailer.com After very little research and a quick phone call to tech support... they knew exactly what I needed along with the adapter cord that plugs right into the fuse panel. It took me all of 10 minutes to install the unit and it works phenomenal. Also due to the amount of time I had to get the unit and get it installed they expedited the shipping and I had it the next day. These folks know exactly what they're doing and what you need and will not disappoint. I have never had an easier and more pleasurable installation of an aftermarket product. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Thank you very much again a very satisfied customer. I purchased the Primus IQ which is a proportional braking system and again it came with a harness that went right into the fuse panel in my truck. The instructions were easy to follow and a unit works very very well. As I said 10 minutes to put it in at the most. Great job guys thanks again. 821849

The Primus IQ part # TK90160 is the updated version of the Primus 90155 that you have. Your version of the Primus will not work with your 2016 Ram 1500 because the new Rams use a multiplex style of brake light wiring that your controller won't understand. It will think that the brakes are on all the time or won't work at all. So the # 3016 will technically plug in to your controller but it won't work with your truck.
