Troubleshooting Thomas Payne Seismic Series Recliner That Wont Recline

Question:

We have a dual recliner w/ a center console in our 2000 Country Coach Motorhome. Both sides will no longer recline. Other functions are working - the heat and message are working. When I push the Open or Close button, I can hear a clicking sound, but the chair wont open. Id like to test the controller, but because I cant get the chair open, Im unable to get to the controller. The chair is bolted to the floor of our RV, and its almost impossible to get behind it. I cant test anything. I have unpluged the units and let them sit for about 10 minutes to reset. This did not help. I cannot examine the wiring under the seats to make sure that none of the wires are pinched because I cant get the recliner to recline. I cannot unbolt the chairs to test the control box for continuity. Any suggestions?

Since you already unplugged the chair and allowed it to sit for 10 minutes to reset you would need to unbolt the recliner from the floor and examine the wiring under the seats to make sure that none of the wires are pinched. You could also try to swap out the cub holders to check and see if any of the functionality changes on the chairs. If the right hand chair suddenly becomes operational, you know that the cup holder controls are faulty on one side.

If neither of the steps work, you will have to unbolt the chairs to see if you can test the control box for continuity. If the control box is bad you will need to replace it with The Replacement Power Control Box for Thomas Payne Seismic Recliners and Sofas # LC36FR.
