How To Disconnect Power To A LP Gas Detector That's At The End Of Its Life
Question:
I have a black model installed in my 2012 Jayco Eagle FLFS. I honestly didnt even know I had a built in carbon monoxide/propane detector so I bought a plug in unit that works great and is plugged in less that 4 feet from the built in unit just coincidentally. This morning the unit started Beeping. After the reset button wouldnt work I got out my owners manual and figured out that due to the length in between the beeps and the lights that it means its at its end of lifeinch and needs to be replaced. I dont need to or plan on replacing it at least not anytime soon so I need the beeping to stop. Is there a way to get it to stop other than taking it off and disconnecting the wires? Im not an electrician by any means but cant listen to this any longer or afford to pay an electrician. If I do just take it off the wall I need to disconnect the power sources then disconnect the wires right? My question is what do I do with the hot wires once theyre disconnected from the unit itself?

Since you have an Atwood detector you could simply replace it with the Atwood RV Carbon Monoxide and Propane Gas Detector # AT36681 that you were looking at, which I HIGHLY recommend for your safety.
These detectors are wired to your DC distribution panel with a backup wire directly to your battery so the easiest way to cut power to it would be to physically remove it from the wall and cut the wires and cap them off with some wire nuts and electrical tape. The wires can just hangout in the wall until they are needed again.
