Question:
I am trying to rebuild, what I believe to be 6,000lb tandem trailer axles. The aluminum data braceletfoot on them I included 2 pictures indicates their capacity to only be 4,400lbs. They have 12inch brake drums with 6x5.5inch lug patterns. So do I have 4,400lb or 6,000lb axles?

Helpful Expert Reply:
The axles on your tandem axle trailer are 4,400 lb AL-KO axles. The tag says 4,400 lbs max capacity, so that is what you need to follow. The brake drum size and bolt pattern do not determine axle capacity.
If you want to replace these axles, I recommend using 5,200 lb axles. You will want to match your current hub face to hub face measurement for a replacement. Keep in mind, you would still be limited by the weakest component on your trailer and having a higher axle capacity does not mean you can carry more weight.
If you can't find the right length you could also use the Timbren Axle-Less Suspension # ASR5200S01. This is a universal system that will fit any frame width. This would also require new hubs and drums like the # 8-201-9UC3-EZ.
I have attached some review videos along with a link to all of our 5,200 lb axles for your reference.
