Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch for Airstream Flying Cloud 27FB
Products Featured in This Question
Question:
What is the proper Equal-I-Zer sway control hitch model to buy to pair my 2016 Yukon with Trailer Package to my Airstream Flying Could 27FB? And are there any installation issues I may run into specific to the Airstream setup? Also, what tools are needed to install? Thank you!

When choosing a weight distribution hitch the most important factor is the tongue weight of your setup. This includes the loaded tongue weight of your trailer along with the weight of anything in your 2016 Yukon behind the rear axle. Based on what I found for the 2022 Airstream Flying Cloud 27FB the base weight with LP and batteries is 5,000 lbs with a GVWR of 6,000 lbs.
The tongue weight is typically going to be 10-15% of your trailer weight. I recommend finding your exact tongue weight using a scale like the # e99044. Assuming 10-15% of 6,000 you are looking at 600-900lbs of tongue weight. If that is the cause, I recommend the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW # EQ37100ET. This has a tongue weight range of 600-1,000 lbs so you would be within the range of this WDH.
If you find that you are under 600 lbs then you would want the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control - 6,000 lbs GTW, 600 lbs TW # EQ37060ET instead. This WDH has a tongue weight range of 200-600 lbs. For the hitch ball installation for both of these you would need a 1-7/8" thin walled socket like the # ALL643216.
There are no specific issues that I am aware of with the Airstream when it comes to using a WDH. Occasionally there can be an installation issue if the propane or accessories on the tongue are in the way. The Equal-i-zer WDH's I listed require installation of the sway brackets 32" back from the center of the coupler on the trailer frame. If you find that this will not work feel free to reach out and I will help you find a solution.
I have attached some review videos along with a helpful article on how to determine tongue weight for your reference.
