Electric Trailer Jack Has Corroded on the Inside

Question:
Somehow, the electric jack has gotten water in it and rusted inside the electric motor. The small bearing on the motor shaft was rusted to where it wouldnt move at all. The only way I can think that the water entered was through the top cap and seeped in along the shaft. I was just curious if anyone else had a similar problem with this model jack and if there is any remedy to correct it. I think if I can replace the bearing, I might be able to get the jack to work again, but still would have to contend with the moisture problem. Grommets instead of the caps might be the answer as they might seal better. Have any thoughts on this?

There are several places water can get into any given jack. Water should be able to drain out though. If the exit points which would be at the lowest point are clogged then the water would not be able to exit. You could use a jack cover like # UF38-944020 for future use. I have been using one on my trailer for 3 years and am very satisfied with it.
There is no telling how much damage is really done. If there is enough corrosion then something inside could be structurally compromised and fail when you have weight on the jack. I would not be comfortable offering just replacement parts as a fix. I strongly recommend replacing the jack.
The Electric A-Frame Tongue Jack, # LC285318 is a good choice.
