Question:
While restoring this old trailer i have i may have overdone it and broke the lug bolts off the one hub. Since they are frozen in place i doubt Im gonna be able to get them out. So im looking at alternatives. The hub has dayton fayette 9222 on it, i think it started life as a camper, and the spindle measures 1.25 straight shaft. I am thinking maybe i should replace them both with a more commonly found size so i can get a spare for it. Any suggestions? Tom

Having a 1.25 spindle, it can be a few bearings that will fit. However, there will not be a hub that uses both an inner and outer bearing of this size. With that said, I highly recommend replacing your axles with something that will use a more common bearing combo.
Doing this will require a few things. If you look at the Dexter Trailer Axle with Idler Hubs # 35545I-ST-89, it will have a hub face to hub face measurement of 89 inches and a center of one spring seat to the center of the other will be 74 inches, so you will need to measure your current axle to see if this will work. This will also include idler hubs, so no brake drums, with the very common 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern, making replacement parts significantly easier to source.
Another way to go though, is the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System # A35RS545. this will also include idler hubs with the 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern, but it isn't restricted by hub face or spring seat measurements. This will give you independent suspension, which will also improve the ride of the trailer. This is a much more expensive option, but one that I like regardless. It also wont give you a very vintage look anymore.
If you prefer to go with a standard axle, you will need to contact a local trailer supply shop that can order axles built to your specifications.
