How to Raise the Height of a Boat Trailer to Avoid Scraping on Inclines
Products Featured in This Question
Question:
My boat prop-guard v-drive ski boat drags my driveway and Im looking for a way to raise the trailer. It is a single 2x4inch axle trailer with leaf springs that have a shackle on front and back of the leaf. Im guessing about 1inch lift would provide clearance and still let me launch without getting the truck in the lake.

What I recommend, if the trailer has round axles, is an over-under conversion kit. For 3 inch round axles use # K71-385-00 and for 2-3/8 inch round axles use # K71-384-00. This of course will only work if the leaf springs are mounted to the bottom of the trailer now. What this kit does is allow you to put the springs on top of he axle without flipping the axle or welding.
Otherwise what you could do is use taller hangers. All of the hangers would have to be raised the same amount. So if you wanted another inch for example, each new hanger would have to be 1 inch taller than the current hangers. I have included a link to the hangers we carry.
Keep in mind that raising the trailer height will change the center of gravity and can lead to the increased likelihood of sway.

I have a 1997 Centurion single axle trailer. It is really low. I would like to raise it. It has leaf on top of axle already. it does look as if i could flip the u-shaped axle over and bolt everything back together. Just not sure if this is okay? What your thoughts?
