Question:

I have a 2016 Touareg TDI and a newbie to towing a travel trailer. I have two questions: 1. VW says not to use a weight distribution hitch on the Touareg. We’d still want to have a sway-control only system for safe towing. The electronic system that I started from was suggested by a friend who has towed trailer for many years. What sway-only control system would you recommend with a 2016 Touareg TDI? 2. Trailer dealer states that wiring on VWs is rather complicated, so they want to install a wireless controller in the trailer with the module that controls how hard it applies the trailer brakes in the Touareg but they are not sure that the Prodigy will communicate with the Touareg over the brake line in the factory, 7-pin connector different frequencies used for European cars and American products. What brake controller would you recommend for a 2016 Touareg TDI?

I recommend the Tuson Sway Control # 335TSC-1000 as the best electronic sway control for your 2016 Volkswagen Touareg.

For the brake controller the wiring is not as complicated as many believe. We have a article (linked below) that will walk you through all the steps and extra parts necessary to install a hard wired brake controller. I recommend the Prodigy P3 # 90195 for user friendly operation and customization.

If you still prefer to go wireless the Curt Echo # C51180 I feel is a better choice. It won't use up the 12v outlet like the Prodigy RF. It is also a lot more compact and easily moved to different vehicles and trailer combinations. All the settings and troubleshooting are handled right from the Curt App on your smart phone meaning less hassle and paperwork to keep with you. If you lose your phone the controller will stay on the last settings given. And with being proportional it will automatically adjust for light or severe braking.
