Locating Reverse Light Circuit on 2001 Dodge Ram 1500
Products Featured in This Question
Question:
Do you have an instruction manual or diagram on how to connect the blue wire of this 5-way flat vehicle end to the reverse lights? I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500. My boat trailer has a 5-way flat connector, wherein the blue wire disengages the brakes whenever the backup light is activated. Im not sure how to connect the vehicle ends corresponding wire to the backup lights.

I do not have any information that is specific to your 2001 Ram, but I can certainly help you through the process.
The easiest way to do this is to access the rear of one of your tail light assemblies, as if you were replacing a burned out bulb. Once you look at the rear of the assembly, it should be immediately evident which wire feeds the reverse light (clear bulb). You would tap the wire with the blue stripe into that circuit, using a butt connector like part # DW05714. Be sure to wrap your connection in electrical tape to isolate moisture and dirt from your connection.
Before tapping into the wire, use a circuit tester like part # 3808 to check the wire. It should show voltage only when the transmission is placed into reverse.
