Understanding Hitch Class of Curt Hitch that Fits 2021 Toyota Venza

Question:

I have a 2021 Toyota Venza and am interested in a hitch to attache a bike rack. Your C89UR seems to be what I need but the specs say 200lbsTW and 2000lbsGTW. These are the specs for a class 1 hitch but the ad says theC89UR is a class 3 hitch ! What gives ?

The Curt hitch that fits your 2021 Toyota Venza # C89UR is interesting in that it has the 2 inch hitch size that Class III hitches normally have but has the lower weight capacity of a Class I hitch. So what this calls attention to is the hitch Classification is mostly just used as a way to organize the different capacities and hitch sizes but the "rules" on them aren't set in stone.

So with this hitch you'd have a 2 inch hitch that has the lower capacities.
