To hardwire the Putco Blade LED Tailgate Light Bar - Stop, Tail, Turn, Backup - 60" Long Item # P92009-60 to the factory wiring on your 2018 Ram 1500 you first need to locate the back of the factory plug. Strip the tape off and to identify the wire colors. The colors should be the same as the colors on the light bar. Once located, I recommend testing each to make sure you have the correct wires. On the vehicle, brown is the running lights, yellow is the left turn signal, green is the right turn signal, black is the 12v power. The following is step by step instructions for connecting the light bar wiring to the vehicles factory wiring once you have tested and determined the wire colors are correct.
I recommend using Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connector - 12-10 Gauge - Nylon Insulation - Yellow - Qty 5
Item # DW05745-5 and a Hook Probe Circuit Tester Item # PTW2993 to help make the instillation easier.
1. Cut the 4 pole plug off the end of the tailgate light.
2. Strip back the ends of each wire
3. Locate the correct wires on the back of the vehicle plug that you will be using.
4. You can start with any of the 4 wires but as a reference, on the vehicle, cut the brown wire in half and strip both ends.
5. Take a heat shrink butt connector and attach it to the end of one of the wires on the vehicle.
6. Take the brown wire from the light, the other end of the brown wire from the plug on the vehicle, twist the bare ends together and insert them into the other end of the butt connector. You have now connected the running light circuit from the vehicle to the light bar.
7. Repeat the same process for the three remaining wires.
8. The white wire from the light is ground. Attach the ground wire to the frame with a self tapping screw.
