Should I Replace the "China Bomb Tires On My Trailer
Products Featured in This Question
Question:
I have heard westlake tires called china bombs. I have the above tires on my 2017 Imagine TT. These tires have about 14,000 miles on them and look in really good shape. The date stamp shows they were made in 2016 and 2017. Is there any danger using these tires, planning a cross country trip in the spring 2021.

It sounds like you don't really want to replace your tires but still want peace of mind while traveling which I'm sure anyone can understand. I can't promise you they won't fail but if cared for properly these chances are reduced. That said, anything can happen not matter the tire manufacturer so what I recommend is that you have the ability to monitor the tires while traveling so you can be alerted to potential blowouts and get to the side of the road to remedy the issue. This is where the TireMinder TPMS for Dual Axle Trailers part # TPMS-TRAILER comes into play. This kit will alert you of rising tire pressure and temperature which are what cause blowouts so you can pull over and let the tires cool off or adjust the pressure. This is really a must have system for long hauls where you could end up several miles from town.
If you were to upgrade tires, the Provider ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire part # TR20515D is my recommendation. Please note, the average life of a trailer tire is around 6-7 years but mileage is not relevant for trailer tires.
