Installation and Torque of 1-1/4 Inch Shank Hitch Ball onto Ball Mount
Updated 10/06/2020 | Published 10/05/2020 >
Question:
Recommended torque settings for 1 1/4 ball mount are 450ft/lbs! I seem to have misplaced my 450ft/lb torque wrench. What types of businesses would typically be able to do this for me?

That foot pound rating for torqueing a hitch ball onto a ball mount requires a special torque wrench. A local mechanic should have something compatible. If you can't find anyone with the correct torque wrench as many max out at 250 lbs, then we recommend using a breaker bar and pipe extension to at least ensure the lock washer is completely compressed to flat before use. Installing the ball mount sideways in the receiver tube will allow the best hold (although without pin obviously) for keeping the ball mount in place while applying the downward pressure with the breaker bar socket wrench and extension.
Obviously we recommend getting the manufacturers specs for torque using the proper torque wrench.
