Replacement Wheels and Tires For 20.5x8x10 Tires on Wave Runner Trailer

Updated 03/31/2020 | Published 03/30/2020

Question:

I recently purchased a dual wave runner trailer with 20.5x8x10 tires on it that need to be replaced. I will tow this trailer mostly at highway speeds, is it better to go with a straight 20.5x8x10 replacement or a ST145 R12 trailer tire and will this fit under the wheel well? Also, would a radial ST145 R12 be better than the 20.5x8x10 bias ply trailer tire for highway speed towing? Thanks for your assistance.

The modern replacement tire for your 20.5x8x10 tires are 205/65-10 Bias tires which are the same size as your current tires.

To answer your question about radial tires vs bias tires, radial tires do dissipate heat more efficiently which is why they are recommended for highway use, however we do not carry a ST145 R12 radial tire that has a highway speed rating. They are rated for 65 MPH so they will not provide the highway speeds you are looking for. They are only 1" larger in diameter then your existing tires so they would most likely fit under the wheel well of your trailer. We do recommend at least 1-2 inches of wheel well clearance.

I recommend to use the Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10" Galvanized Wheel part # AM3H490 to replace your 20.5x8x10 which has 87 mph speed rating and are load range E tires so they can handle a bit more weight then a lower load range. They are rated for 1,650 lbs at 90 psi. The wheel is a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern wheel that is galvanized to resist corrosion in salt water environments. I have attached a video for your reference.

If your bolt pattern is 4 on 4, you can use part # AM3H470 which is the same tire and wheel but has a 4 on 4 bolt pattern. If you are not sure of your bolt pattern, I have attached a helpful article explaining how to figure out which bolt pattern you have to fit your hub.

If you don't want to replace your wheels you can use the Loadstar K399 Bias Trailer Tire part # AM1HP56 with your existing wheel.
