I was able to find the owner's manual for the 2005 F-150 4x4 5.4 Supercab Lariat. The 145" wheel base SuperCab 5.4L with 3.73 rear axle ratio has a maximum GCWR of 15,000 lbs if you have 17" tires. It has a maximum trailer weight of 9,300 lbs. If you have 18" tires the GCWR is 14,500 lbs and maximum trailer weight is 8,800 lbs.
The 133" wheel base 5.4L and 3.73 rear axle ratio with 17" tires has a GCWR 13,500 lbs and a maximum trailer weight of 7,800 lbs. The 18" tire version has a GCWR of 13,000 lbs and a maximum trailer weight of 7,300 lbs. This was the information I have found in the owner's manual for the 2005 Ford F-150.
It sounds like your hitch is rated for a max tongue weight of 500 without a weight distribution hitch and with a weight distribution hitch the tongue weight is 990. I cannot recommend exceeding the vehicle weight rating found in the owner's manual though for your particular engine, axle ratio and tire size.
If you plan on towing a trailer that is close to the weight capacity of your truck or towing frequently, I recommend to add AirLift air bags part # AL88200 to the suspension to take some stress off the rear end of the truck. The air bags are adjustable to eliminate rear sag that is common with towing heavier trailers.
I also recommend to add a compressor to the system with part # AL25854 so you can adjust the air bags from the cab without stopping at a convenience station for air.
