In order to connect a water heater of that size/capabilities, you'll need a regulator that is designed to handle that amount of propane flow. For that reason you'll need to use the MB Sturgis Horizontal 2-Stage Propane Regulator # 108221 which is rated for up to 400,000 BTU and equipped with an 11" water column outlet to assist with flow efficiency in cold temperatures.

From there, you'll need a male pigtail hose like # 100019-144 to connect your propane tank to the regulator and if the gas inlet on your water heater has a 1/2 female inverted flare fitting you will use # 100383-48-MBS . If your water heater has a different sized or type of fitting, let me know and I can recommend the correct fitting hose.
