It sounds like you have the Reese 16K 5th Wheel Hitch model # RP30047. If this is the case then you can simply replace the fixed legs with the Reese Square Tube Slider # RP30048 in order to convert it to a sliding model.

Please keep in mind though that while a sliding hitch will certainly provide you with more cab clearance compared to a fixed unit, typically with a 5-1/2 foot bed a pivoting pin box on the trailer is needed to allow for 90 degree turns. The Reese slider will offer 10 inches of front to back travel while a pivoting pin box like the Reese Sidewinder moves the pivot point 22 inches behind the king pin.

If you decide to go this route you will need to determine what model pin box you currently have on the trailer. Since Reese Sidewinders (and other pivoting pin box models) are designed to replace the factory pin box, you will need to choose one that is designed for what your trailer is currently equipped with. With a pivoting pin box you will need to use a fixed 5th wheel hitch so you would be able to use what you already have.

Just as an example the Reese Sidewinder # RP34FR is designed to replace the Lippert 0719, 1621, and 1621HD pin boxes. I have attached a link that will take you to our available selection that you can look through along with an article on the subject that you might find helpful.
