Recommended Weight Distribution System for 2013 Forest River R-Pod 177
Products Featured in This Question
Question:
I have a 2009 Toyota Highlander with the towing package. Bought a 2013 Rpod 177. Towed the trailer on short trips this past summer but looking on going on longer distance trips this summer where I would need to haul water. Would a weight distribution hitch be beneficial? There is a noticeable drop in the rear of the Highlander when the trailer is hooked up. The Rpod tongue weight is 245 empty. Was looking at the Curt weight distribution system, Item # C17050. Thank you.

A weight distribution system is a good idea anytime there is a noticeable drop on the rear suspension of your vehicle. It is also a good idea if you are experiencing any sway to help minimize that trailer wander with wind gusts and passing traffic.
Your 245 lb dry tongue weight along with 36 gallon fresh water tank will double that weight. The Curt MV Weight Distribution System # C17050 you referenced will help with the distribution and reduce sag but will not help at all with sway. You will want hitch ball # 40038 with this system. You can add the friction sway control # 17200 to assist if desired. This system is rated for 500-600 lbs total tongue weight so if you were to pull without your water tank you would not use the spring bars but the friction sway bar could still be used.
My recommendation is the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control # FA94-00-0600. This system has integrated sway control and won't utilize chains. I recommend the 2 inch hitch ball # EQ91-00-6080 for this system.
I've attached an article on weight distribution and sway control to assist.
