Question:

Hi, I am working on a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 with a factory installed 7 pin and an aftermarket brake controller using a 3020-P connector. There is no 12v at the 7 way plug lt, rt, running, brakes, ground all work. I cant find a fuse location in the owners manual but not even sure if it was hooked up like some tahoes etc. So, my questions are: - Was the 12v hooked up from the factory? - If not, is there an easy way to hook it up? - If it was, did it route through the TIPM? - If through the TIPM, is the dealer the only one who can reset it? - If the best solution is to hard wire it, is there a wire in the engine compartment where i can cut it and add an inline fuse and go direct to the battery or do I need to run wire all the way back to the plug? If your 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 came with a factory 7-way like you said then the 12 volt power wire should already be ran and there will be a fuse for it in the engine bay fuse box. I looked in the owner's manual for this but they do not list the fuse locations so you will just need to check this again for yourself. It should be labeled "Trailer Battery" or something similar.

Once the fuse is cleared you then need to trace the 12 volt power wire from the rear of the 7-way as far up as you can while checking for any breaks. If none are found or you can't trace the wire all the way back then the best solution would be to just run a new one directly to the battery with part # 10-1-1 and part # PK54540.

Unfortunately, I do not have the TIPM schematics for your vehicle so I can't inform you how it is wired but the dealer would in addition to being the ones who need to reset/replace it if need be.
