Can 5th Wheel Trailer Wiring Be Connected To Bumper or Only 7-Way In-Bed Connection?
Published 10/12/2018 >
Question:
Does the connection for a 5th wheel RV need to be inside the pickup truck bed or may I go straight to the bumper connection? If the connection should be in the truck bed, is that something a 5th wheel hitch installer typically does at the same time? Thanks!

You can definitely connect a 5th wheel wiring harness to the bumper 7-way on your truck. The second in-bed 7-way connection is simply to give an easy access point and clean look. It keeps the wiring from dragging or moving against your tailgate, so some people prefer the second 7-way as a solution for that.
If you choose to add the second 7-way like # C56000 to give you two functional connections, a 5th wheel hitch installer can absolutely add that at the same time as installing a hitch or base rail kit. This is an easy install that you can have them do if you don't feel comfortable doing yourself. I've attached a video to assist as the process on the Chevy will be the same as that from any of the major truck manufacturers.
