Trailer Jack that Doesnt Hang Down Very Far for a Big Tex Utility Trailer

Question:

I have a Big Tex utility trailer that I use often and it has a top wind trailer jack installed. The jack works well however, even when fully raised, it often drags or scrapes the roadway if there is a bump or rise in the road. Is there a jack that has a high clearance distance from the bottom of the jack to the road? I drive on a lot of country roads where the surface is uneven, rutted or bumpy. Im afraid that I will hit a spot in the road that will be high enough for me to lose rear wheel traction due to being lifted up by hitting the jack or damage the jack and/or tongue of the trailer. Depending on the capacity you need I do have some A-Frame jack options you might like. Take a look at the Ultimate Trailer Jack # 322-RDJ-2K. It is more adjustable than other jacks and measures just 1-3/4" from the mounting bracket to the bottom of the leg with the jack fully retracted and the collar at the lowest setting. This jack is rated for 2,000 pounds.

A wheel or foot will add more to that 1-3/4 inches so keep that in mind. For a wheel you can use # JC-102. For a foot you can use # JF-101BK.

Another option is to use a swivel jack such as # BD190758 which will mount to the side of the trailer frame. This is a pipe mount and it comes with the pipe that will need to be welded to the side of the frame. Once the trailer is hitched up to the tow vehicle you can swivel the jack up so it is parallel with the trailer frame. This jack is rated for 5,000 pounds and comes with a foot.
